Damar Hamlin is the football safety for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). As a freshman, he played three games but suffered an injury and redshirting.
He recorded 41 tackles as a Redshirt freshman and one interception in his nine games. With 90 tackles, Hamlin led the Panthers as a redshirt sophomore. There were also two interceptions and he was named honorable mention by the All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
As a redshirt junior, Hamlin recorded 84 tackles with 10 passes and was named a team captain in the final season. In the 2021 NFL Draft, Hamlin was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round. On January 2, 2023, Hamlin made a hard tackle on wide receiver Tee Higgins at a Week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football. After the tackle, the 24-year-old collapsed on the field.
According to reports on the game, he was given both CPR and oxygen. Shortly afterward, an ambulance arrived on the field and took Hamlin to the hospital.
Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills quarterback, and other teammates were close to tears. After some discussions between the coaches and the referee, the game was temporarily suspended.
