Following suspicions surrounding the true story it is based on, Skydance has chosen to entirely scrap its planned film ‘Dallas Sting’. The project was only six weeks away from beginning production in New Orleans, and it had already been mostly cast, with Matthew McConaughey set in the lead role.
A Dallas girls soccer team that flew to China and, despite all the odds, defeated some of the top women’s teams in the world was the subject of the true-life feature film. Bill Kinder, the team’s coach, guided them to wins over Australia, Japan, China, and ultimately Italy in the title match. McConaughey was to portray Bill Kinder.

All That Is Known About Matthew McConaughey’s Abandoned Project
On Wednesday, word came that the movie which was only six weeks away from beginning filming in New Orleans and that the majority of the actors had already been chosen is being scrapped. At this time, it is unclear exactly what is alleged, although the report claims as reported by various new outlets including The Hollywood Reporter that Skydance and the movie’s producers received, “disturbing allegations surrounding aspects of the true story on which the drama was based.”
Skydance declined to comment on the project, which it was co-producing with Berlanti Schechter Productions. According to a source with direct knowledge of the decision, Skydance and the producers were deeply saddened by the outcome since they believed the 1984 team’s and its young women’s tale needed to be told. The coach’s daughter was portrayed by Kaitlyn Dever, who most recently appeared in ‘Dopesick.’ Additionally, the producers invested a lot of time and money in a thorough audition process to identify real soccer players who could then be worked with on their acting skills.

The Upcoming Projects Of Matthew McConaughey
In 1996, Matthew appeared in the courtroom drama ‘A Time to Kill’ as a lawyer and if Deadline is to be believed then HBO is developing a limited series adaptation of Grisham’s Sequel ‘A Time for Mercy’ which will once again feature McConaughey. Guy Ritchie made a comeback to his British gangster roots with the 2020 film ‘The Gentlemen’ which had McConaughey in the leading role. The film did so well that Ritchie decided to develop it into a television series and while Matthew has not been formally finalized as the face of the project, it is safe to assume that he is going to be soon as his TV track record is not something Ritchie would want to ignore.
Along with this, Matthew garnered a lot of success with the first season of ‘True Detective’ even though the second season bombed with the audiences. Despite that, McConaughey and Woody Harrelson served as the show’s executive producers for season three and even reprised their roles for a short cameo. If sources are to be believed, Matthew and Woody can make a comeback with the fourth season of the detective drama. In 2015 it was reported that McConaughey was attached to the film adaption of the 2008 book ‘The Billionaire’s Vinegar’ but nothing became of it . However, recently, the project might see the light of the day with Matthew as the main character. Regardless of what happens to this one, there is a tonne of great work waiting for Matthew McConaughey.
