Brendan Fraser was once one of the most bankable names in Hollywood. He gained global recognition for his role as Rick O’Connell in ‘The Mummy’ trilogy. Fraser then took a break from acting and returned this year with Darren Aronofsky’s ‘The Whale‘ which was well received.
Recently, the 53-year-old actor stated that he will not be attending the 2023 Golden Globe Awards even if he is nominated for ‘The Whale.’ Let’s find out why Fraser does not want to attend the prestigious award show, that too after a long break.
Brendan Fraser To Not Attend The 2023 Golden Globes
Fraser made a powerful comeback after years of absence from acting with Darren Aronofsky’s ‘The Whale‘. His role as an obese man was well received and he even received a standing ovation at its Venice premiere.
Now, the 53-year-old actor stated that he will not be attending the 2023 Golden Globe Awards even if he is nominated for the performance, according to The Guardian.
This announcement comes after Fraser alleged that he was sexually assaulted by the former president of the organization that runs Golden Globe. “I knew they would close ranks,” Fraser said.
“I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association,” Fraser added. When asked if he would attend, Fraser said, “No, I will not participate.”

Fraser Had Accused The Director Of Sexual Assault
In 2018, Fraser publicly alleged that Philip Berk, a Hollywood Foreign Press Association member and a former president of the organization of Globes, groped him at a lunch in Beverly Hills in 2003.
The actor explained that the incident was one of the reasons for him to leave Hollywood for so long. “I was blaming myself and I was miserable – because I was saying, ‘This is nothing; this guy reached around and he copped a feel.’ … it made me feel reclusive,” he said.
Berk retaliated and called it “a total fabrication”, but acknowledged he apologized to Fraser over the incident. An internal investigation concluded that Berk had “inappropriately touched” Fraser. In response, Berk said that it “was intended to be taken as a joke and not as a sexual advance.”
