Thanks to J.J. Abrams, the ‘Star Trek‘ franchise was introduced to new fanfare. Chris Pine as Kirk was the perfect blend of suave and cocky; some would say even better than what old fans saw in William Shatner. But the following lackluster sequels seemed to have stalled ‘Star Trek 4.’
Currently titled as ‘Star Trek 4,’ the project has gone through different directors eventually quitting the project. At one point, Quentin Tarantino was attached. Other directors like S.J. Clarkson and Noah Hawley also came on board, with Matt Shakman finally taking over the reins. The film’s search for a director continues as even Shakman has left the project.

Box-Office Failure Of ‘Star Trek Beyond’
The third film of the reboot franchise, ‘Star Trek Beyond‘ was met with crushing financial disappointment at the box office. Generally speaking, any studio with business sense would exercise caution moving forward. But the lack of updates has frustrated the cast, doubting the movie’s future.
Chris Pine talked about how the cast is out of the loop with the latest developments about ‘Star Trek 4.’ While promoting ‘Dungeons And Dragons,’ he told Esquire Magazine that he “doesn’t know anything” about what’s happening with ‘Star Trek 4.’ He called out the unprofessionalism, saying, “it doesn’t really foster the greatest sense of partnership.“

Matt Shakman, The Latest Director To Leave ‘Star Trek 4’
‘Star Trek 4‘ was on course with director Matt Shakman. But Marvel soon tapped Shakman for their ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot, leaving the project again in a void. Zoey Saldana provided an update on the film’s status last year, suggesting the scheduling conflict keeps getting in the way.
‘Star Trek 4‘ has been taken off the release calendar of Paramount Studios. Without Matt Shakman leaving the project for Marvel, the studio is still looking for a new director to take over. Earlier, the film was scheduled for a theatrical release date of December 22, 2023. This disheartening news makes us wonder if USS Enterprise will ever set sail.
