The responses and reactions to Harrison Butker‘s graduation speech are still rolling in, as another team member from the NFL and Kansas City Chiefs has stood up to address Butker’s comments on women.
After Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has now spoken up on his teammate’s defense, despite Butker including a sly Taylor Swift reference in his speech that is even now being slammed by thousands. Here’s what Kelce’s thoughts are on Harrison Butker, and his graduation speech that went viral on social media.
Travis Kelce’s Response To Harrison Butker’s Speech
Travis Kelce has kept his loyalty to his teammates off the field as the Chiefs tight end sat down to talk about Harrison Butker’s infamous graduation speech, which led to him getting canceled on social media over his misogynistic statements.
“I cherish him as a teammate. I think Pat [Mahomes] said it best where he is every bit of a great person and a great teammate,” Kelce said on an episode of ‘New Heights’ podcast, then added, “He’s treated friends and family that I’ve introduced to him with nothing but respect and kindness and that’s how he treats everyone. When it comes down to his views and what he said at Saint Benedict’s commencement speech, those are his.”
He then adds that though he doesn’t agree with the majority of the speech, he won’t judge him by his views as that’s not who he is.
After Travis, Jason too quipped in and added, “There’s always going to be opinions that everybody shares that you’re going to disagree with. And make no mistake about it, a lot of the things he said in his commencement speech are not things that I align myself with. But, he’s giving a commencement speech at a Catholic university, and, shocker, it ended up being a very religious and Catholic speech.”

The Controversy Around Harrison Butker’s Speech Isn’t Dying Down
Kelce isn’t the first teammate to comment on Butker’s speech. Patrick Mahomes too, spoke up recently about his thoughts on his teammate’s remarks on women.
Mahomes said, “There’s certain things that he said that I don’t necessarily agree with, but I understand the person that he is and he is trying to do whatever he can to lead people in the right direction,” before adding, “And that might not be the same values as I have, but at the same time, I’m going to judge him by the character that he shows every single day. That’s a great person and we’ll continue to move along and try to help build each other up to make ourselves better every single day. But at the end of the day, we’re going to come together as a team and I think that’ll help out as eliminating those distractions outside of the building as well.”
Though he approached the situation in a much softer light, the NFL made sure to establish that Butker’s views didn’t at all align with the views the League believes in, as they stated, “Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity. His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”
