Did Elon Musk Shut Down Slack Due To Non-Payment Of The Bill?

Twitter has never needed an anchor so badly than now due to its sinking strategies. Elon Musk claims to have been working very hard to revamp the platform. However, the company is in its disastrous phase. The billionaire wanted to restructure the platform to transform it into the “digital square of democracy”. But, to do so, it requires a strong workforce and a practical approach that Musk has been lacking all along.

The deal itself was not smooth sailing for the new CEO. When he announced that he will be buying the micro-blogging site, a glimmer of hope was generated. The stock prices went up, and Musk’s popularity surged. Finally, he completed the historic $44 billion deal in October 2022. Since then, he has been trying and failing at revamping Twitter. The radical policies and measures are working against him. The mega layoffs, impractical deadlines, and the overall vision are neither leading to progress nor generating revenue. Due to dwindling finances, the company has to give up its most significant means of communication, Slack.

On February 22nd, 2023, Twitter employees were informed that Slack is down for “routine maintenance”. Along with Slack, the equivalent of Google Analytics, Jira was also down for the day.

The media outlet asked a Slack employee about the maintenance. The employee said, “There’s no such thing as routine maintenance. That’s bulls***”.

Platformer confirmed that the real reason Slack was down for two days was due to outstanding dues. Elon Musk failed to pay the bill and someone at Twitter cut off access to the application completely. Many employees expressed their discontent on Blind with the discontinuation of access to Slack.

An employee predicted that it is the “proverbial final straw” for the Tesla owner and Twitter’s future with him. Another employee confirmed the nonpayment of the bill writing, “We didn’t pay our Slack bill. Now everyone is barely working. Penny wise, pound foolish”. One of the employees confirmed that Slack deactivation has pushed him to look for other job prospects.

It is Elon Musk’s foolish and unrealistic promises that have pushed Twitter to the brink. On February 22nd, 2023, he replied to a tweet where the user challenged him to open-source the algorithm on the platform. Musk wrote, “Prepare to be disappointed at first when our algorithm is made open source next week, but it will improve rapidly”.

Recently, he fired people from the Sales and Engineering department after the unsatisfactory performance of Twitter’s ads business. One of the engineers tweeted that restoring the ads model will take at least two or three months.

He is introducing new policies to induce revenue at the platform after advertisers pulled the plug causing a huge revenue loss. Nevertheless, the depleting revenue is causing a stack of unpaid bills. The Wall Street Journal updated that nine lawsuits are pending which are primarily for the outstanding dues. The article read, “Landlords, consultants, and vendors in recent months have made demands for payments in at least nine lawsuits, with their complaints totaling more than $14 million plus interest”.
