Twitter has been experiencing tectonic shifts in its structure and function. The platform has gone through many big and minor changes since Elon Musk has come on board as the new CEO. In April 2022, he announced the Twitter buyout. The deal went through a turbulent journey of its own. After a lawsuit and several other inconveniences, he finally bought the microblogging site. To revamp it into something he called ‘Twitter 2.0’, he started bringing many changes.

There were many structural, policy, and inference changes brought forth. The billionaire faced many bumps while reinvigorating the platform. When he became the CEO, the company started losing revenue heavily as advertisers started to pull out advertising on the platform. Twitter has been facing a heavy revenue issue. Elon Musk is doing his best to resurrect the monetary flow on the platform. To restore the flow after the advertisers pulled out, he started an $8 monthly subscription under the garb of security reasons and to protect the identities of certain famous personalities. However, it proved to be an epic fail. He reintroduced ‘Twitter Blue’ with new and exclusive features with different badges for important institutions, businesses, and celebrities.

Despite trying everything, Musk has been dissatisfied with the performance. He has been laying off employees since November 2022 for varied reasons. He fired two engineers for disagreeing with him publicly. Recently, he fired an engineer after he presented statistics of the declining engagement at the Tesla owner’s Twitter account. The layoffs have not stopped yet.

Elon tweeted to fix unwanted advertisements on the platform. Now, due to the unsatisfactory performance of the engineers and sales team to redo the Twitter ads model, he has freshly laid off employees as per The Verge. The inadequate results are due to the aggressive deadlines and ultimatums that Musk has offered time and again. One of the engineers managing the monetization said that Twitter ads can not be improved in a week, but it surely can happen in two to three months.

So, to boost it, Twitter will soon launch the two-factor authentication process via text messages. On February 17th, 2023, Twitter Support announced that “Only Twitter Blue subscribers will be able to use text messages as their two-factor authentication method”.
