‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ became one of the most popular HBO shows due to its simplicity. While ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘House of the Dragon’ often revolve around sprawling wars and political intrigue, HBO’s latest Westeros series found success by focusing on a smaller, more personal story.
That approach isn’t disappearing in Season 2, but it is evolving.
Dunk And Egg’s Journey Expands Beyond Ashford In ‘A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms’ Season 2

The next part of Dunk and Egg’s story will take them beyond the relatively limited confines of Season 1, according to returning director Owen Harris. The upcoming season will take the duo to new parts of Westeros, giving the series a very different feel as it doesn’t stay in one primary location.

That’s good news for fans who were captivated by the chemistry between the two. Season 1 was mainly about Ashford Meadow, so viewers had ample time to get to know the characters and grow fond of their friendship. But Season 2 seems to be ready to take on a more adventurous approach.
“This is a little bit more of a road movie, so in some aspects, it might feel bigger, but in others, the story itself is maybe, do you know what? It’s just different. It’s very different. You can’t repeat season 1.” Dunk and Egg make their way through various places as they keep moving.”
The change is organic and comes from the source material, as the next season follows George R.R. Martin’s novella The Sworn Sword. “You’ve got to do something different. The novella exists, and so it gives it its own flavor, and I think it does allow you to spend more time developing Dunk and Egg and them as characters, as individuals, and what they mean to each other.”
The expanded scope doesn’t necessarily mean larger battles or world-ending threats. Rather, it provides the chance to discover new worlds, new characters, and an even closer bond between the future Lord Commander and the young prince who travels with him. It’s a change that will make Westeros feel bigger, but still intimate.
A Different Tone Without Losing Its Heart

When a popular show takes a turn, one thing fans tend to worry about is if the show will lose its magic. Thankfully, Harris suggests that won’t be the case. The setting and structure might be different, but the warmth, humor, and emotional storytelling of Season 1 are likely to be the focus of this series.

The shifts in setting only add a different taste to the story. “But, weirdly, the setting flavors the tone. Just as Ashford flavored the tone of season 1, where this one takes place, it flavors the tone, and so it is tonally a little bit different as well. But you’ve still got lots of the warmth and the humor and the drama and the ups and the downs, and you got all of that, but it’s different.”
It’s good to see that the bond between Dunk and Egg is the real heart of the story. Their friendship, loyalty, and personal growth provide a refreshing contrast to the power struggles that usually dominate Westeros.
Production has already started, and Season 2 is set to release in 2027. The show is poised to build on what worked while confidently charting its own path. The best adventures often start when characters leave the comfort of their known surroundings, and that’s exactly what Dunk and Egg are about to do.
