Antony Starr Has A Message For People Who Idolize Homelander After ‘The Boys’ Season 4

The Boys’ is currently the most talked about show being streamed, with much praise going towards Antony Starr‘s Homelander. While the show explores multiple satirical elements inspired by the real world, the creators of the series have often put emphasis on the show’s fictional elements, however, the actor’s stellar depiction of the anti-hero has earned him widespread acclaim.

Starr’s portrayal of Homelander is nothing less than perfect. The show has successfully created a villain that people cannot help but admire- something that Starr thinks poses a problem. Here’s why Antony Starr thinks it’s problematic to idolize Homelander in spite of his character flaws.

Ever since the show came out, multiple fandoms have followed it and at some point, the anti-hero has been idolized in ways that might not exactly be right. Talking to Vanity Fair, Antony Starr said, “The weird thing has been how some people have idolized him and seen him as some kind of leader for their own cause in the real world, which is a little disturbing. But I think they realize this season that he’s not.”

This, however, isn’t the first time the actor has spoken up about his feelings about the villain getting idolized. In the past, Starr has made another comment while spelling to LA Times when he said, “There’s a very strange thing that’s happened with the character, though he is clearly not a good guy. A lot of people have glommed onto him. There’s a weird element out there that actually kind of idolize him. I’ve seen some s— on Twitter and I’m like, ‘Wait, What? You are missing the point entirely!’ ”

While speaking to Seth Meyers on his talk show, Starr also talked about a recent development called ‘superhero fatigue’ that many heroes from Marvel and DC are facing. The ‘The Boys’ star however thinks that his show is the antidote to this fatigue.

He said, “I’ve heard this phrase thrown around a lot, ‘superhero fatigue.’ And I think we are the antidote to that, because our universe is completely 180. The good guys are the bad guys. And the bad guys are the good guys. Right? Sorry, all the Homelander fanboys that thought he was the good guy. Uh, the giveaway was when he killed a guy on a plane. Episode one, season one.”

You can stream ‘The Boys’ on Amazon Prime.
