‘Apples Never Fall’ Ending Explained

‘Apples Never Fall’ directed by Chris Sweeney and Dawn Shadforth is an adaptation of the novel ‘Apples Never Fall’ by Liane Moriarty. It is a mystery drama that revolves around the Delaney family. In the series, When the Delaney Matriarch, Joy Delaney goes missing suddenly, and her four children are left alone to uncover the mystery.

Liane Moriarty has had several bestselling novels that have been adapted into TV shows and movies. Before ‘Apples Never Fall’, her novel titled ‘Big Little Lies’ was adapted into a web series by HBO. Furthermore, the series has been praised by critics and holds an 8.4 rating on IMDB and 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

What Is ‘Apples Never Fall’ About?

In Apples Never Fall the story is about the Delaney Family including Joy and Stan Delaney who are the parents and their four children Troy, Amie, Logan, and Brooke. Stan and Joy retire from running a tennis school.

However, they are not able to navigate what they want to do with their time. The kids don’t have time for their parents. A young woman named Savannah comes to their doorstep asking for help as she has just escaped her abusive boyfriend. 

Joy immediately agrees to help the girl in need and lets her stay with them. After some time Joy starts enjoying her company. However, she overstays her welcome and starts inducing conflict. The story switches from present to past and months after Savannah has left, Joy goes missing and all the hints lead to her husband Stan as the lead suspect.

What Happened To Joy Delaney In The Season Finale?

In each episode, the story takes a dive into one of the characters. Everything leads to the final episode which reveals what actually happened to Joy. In the previous episodes, Joy’s bike was found stranded on the road with Blood present on the scene. However, it was revealed that Joy had cut her leg after falling from the bike.

Joy then goes home and argues with Stan and reads the mysterious letter she received. The letter was from Savannah who was apologizing to Joy. Joy then meets up with her and goes to her home. However, it was revealed that Savannah was a con woman and was mentally ill. After Joy came across her Fake ID she asked Savannah to take her home. 

However, Savannah despite agreeing to it had other intentions and started driving recklessly down a highway eventually hitting a truck. Police arrive on the scene and take Joy to the hospital and then to her home. Despite her husband Stan’s suspicious lies he gets released from prison after Joy returns.
