‘The Boys‘ is Amazon Prime’s gory, dark superhero series. It currently has three seasons topping the charts on the streaming platform. As a matter of fact, Prime Video had announced earlier that the series is one of the platform’s most watched shows ever. The series is known for its extremely descriptive action scenes and not to forget, features an exceptionally handsome cast.
The lead actors in the show namely are Dominique McElligott, Antony Starr, Nathan Mitchell, Jessie T. Usher, and our ‘Gossip Girl‘ Guy Chace Crawford. ‘The Boys‘ as you must have seen or even caught a glimpse of here and there is far away from our standard superhero TV show. What Is The Show About?
‘The Boys‘ is adapted from a 72-issue comic book of the same name. It’s set in a world where superheroes exist, and are modern-day celebrities for whom the young girls pine. It is a satire about our modern-day obsession with heroes but these heroes are nothing like the ones in our heads.
The show follows a group of superhero hunters named The Boys. They are trying to take the fight to the big guys. The most powerful of them, The Seven, is owned by Vought, a Disney-size corporation with nefarious plans for how to use them.
The story takes on America’s post-9/11 sociopolitical climate by critiquing our superhero media obsession. Instead of dedicating their lives to saving the world and doing good, ‘The Boys‘ superheroes lead secret lives of total depravity. Furthermore, they indulge in things like bigotry, hard drugs, and ethically questionable sex.

How Are DC And The Boys Related?
‘The Boys‘ comic book ran for 72 issues from 2006 to 2012. Eric described their work as “puncturing and deconstructing culture. Period.” It is however thrilling to imagine a crossover between our favorite DC superheroes and well, anti-superheroes from ‘The Boys‘. Sadly the crossover is far from possible as DC dropped the comics from under their domain due to a ridiculous reason.
DC Publishers canceled the comic book series after just six issues because it was deemed as “too dark” for them. Co-creator Garth Ennis once explained the publisher was “too uneasy” about the “anti-superhero tone” of the comic, which we can clearly see in the series, as it is a pure satire of the superheroes that DC normally portrays. Moreover, they said that ‘The Boys‘ was a spoof of Justice League which everyone knows is like The Avengers of the DC universe. Hence it was giving out a negative image of the characters in the world. Ennis admitted in an interview that the reason for its cancelation from DC Comics was because of the anti-superhero tone of the book.
