‘American Born Chinese‘ is an American fantasy action-comedy series created by Kelvin Yu. The series is based on the 2006 graphic novel of the same name written by Gene Luen Yang who drew inspiration from his adolescent years in the 1990s. The series stars Ben Wang, Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Yeo Yann Yann, and Daniel Wu.
The fantasy-action series witnessed the reunion of ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ cast and follows Jin, a high-schooler who becomes entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods after being introduced to a new Chinese classmate.

Why ‘American Born Chinese’ Got Canceled After Season One
Season one of the series ended with a cliffhanger revealing Jin himself as the Fourth Scroll. Wei-Chen and Jin defeated the villainous Bull Demon and saved Heaven from destruction. But since Jin’s parents were kidnapped by Bull Demon’s wife, Princess Iron Fan, the show had a lot of loose ends to connect. But it is unclear if ‘American-Born Chinese‘ will explore its characters’ fate as Disney pulled the plug on the series just after the first season.
The series stood at 94% on Rotton Tomatoes and yet it was canceled by Disney+. According to Variety, the series had to be canceled because of viewership. A source reportedly informed that while Disney approved of the show, the viewership was not enough for the series to move ahead with a second season. The source also revealed that the producers looked for a new home for the series to stream.

‘American Born Chinese’ Is Looking For A New Streaming Platform
The cancelation of the series came as a surprise to the fans for many reasons. Especially when the responses from the critics and audiences are in favor of the show. ‘American Born Chinese’ fans expected the creators of the series to move ahead with season two, especially when the season one finale ended with a cliffhanger.
Moreover, the series featured an incredible cast that they like a reunion of ‘Everything, Everywhere, All At Once‘, the movie that achieved multiple Oscar wins. Also, season one ended with more questions about Jin’s status as the Fourth Scroll. Moreover, it would have explored the Chinese heritage and culture in depth.
