Fans Of ‘My Lady Jane’ Start An Online Petition To Save The Show From Cancellation

When ‘My Lady Jane‘ debuted on Prime Video in June 2024, it offered a fresh and playful twist on English history. The reimagination of the tale of Lady Jane Grey with a blend of humor, fantasy, and female empowerment offered the audience a great watch. Critics were equally impressed, and the series managed to secure a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite the overwhelmingly positive reception, Amazon canceled ‘My Lady Jane’ after only 8 episodes. But the story doesn’t end there. In classic fan-driven fashion, the show’s supporters have banded together to launch a campaign aimed at reviving the series.

Under the banner of ‘Save My Lady Jane‘, fans have organized a campaign on Change.org. The petition, launched on July 15, passionately urges Prime Video to reconsider its decision. “This cancellation and the widespread outcry it has sparked clearly show otherwise,” the petition states.

With over a hundred thousand signatures already, the campaign is gaining serious momentum. The petition also includes a link to a Linktree that urges fans to rate and review the series on IMDb, Prime Video, and RottenTomatoes, as well as follow the group on X and Facebook and DM Prime Video on Instagram.

They’ve also provided fans with templates to send emails directly to Amazon’s Chief Operating Officer, Albert Cheng. The email template copy reads in part, “I am writing to express my deep frustration and disappointment over the cancellation of My Lady Jane on Prime Video.”

It’s a bold strategy, but in a world where fan campaigns have successfully revived shows like ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘ and ‘The Expanse,’ it just might work.

My Lady Jane,’ based on the book by Cynthia Hand, offers a whimsical reimagining of Lady Jane Grey’s short reign. Instead of meeting a tragic end, Jane, portrayed by Emily Bader, finds herself embroiled in a fantastical plot where historical events are given a playful twist.

With an all-star cast including Edward Bluemel, Jordan Peters, and Kate O’Flynn, the show brought history to life in a way that felt fresh and relevant. Especially for the female audience craving representation in the fantasy genre.

Fans of the show have been vocal about what they love most: the show’s refusal to indulge in the “gratuitous sexual violence and trauma“. Co-creators Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn said in an interview with EW that “they have no sexual violence, nothing like that.”

It’s about joy for us, it’s about communication, connection, and fun. Personally, I get very upset when I watch something that seems to be having a lot of sexual violence or sexual threats against women as entertainment. That rules out a lot of fantasies,” Glynn said.

But I love fantasy shows. So, this is an optimistic, safe fantasy show,” she said.

While some shows, like the push to save ‘Sense8,’ failed to secure a full revival, others have seen remarkable success. Shows like ‘Veronica Mars‘ and ‘Futurama‘ have enjoyed multiple revivals thanks to the passionate efforts of their fan bases.
