Emmy Statuette Gets A Special 75th Anniversary Update

    Emmy statuette

The Emmy Award statuette features a female figurine with wings holding up a globe-like sphere. But in 2023, to mark the 75th-year milestone, the Television Academy decided to give it a makeover. The inspiration has been drawn from Halley’s Comet, which is observed once every 75 years.

Talking about the new design of the statuette before the Emmy Awards 2023, Television Academy President and CEO Maury McIntyre said, “We were trying to find a way to honor the historic nature of the anniversary. Emmy is all about celebrating excellence, and it has been for three quarters of a century. Those standards really haven’t changed significantly regardless of what era the greatest medium on Earth has been in. In that spirit, we didn’t want to veer too far with Emmy herself.”

The Emmy statuette weighs 6 pounds, 12 ounces. The height of the golden beauty is 15.5 inches tall. Every piece is plated with copper-nickel, silver and 24-carat gold. Reportedly, it takes around five and a half hours to get one Emmy Award ready.
