Antony Starr has some fiery words for a certain DC icon. While talking at the Fan Expo, Starr aimed at Batman, sparking a debate amongst comic book fans everywhere.
Starr himself portrays a mega-powerful Superhero and main antagonist, Homelander, in Amazon Prime Video’s TV Show ‘The Boys’. So, his denying Batman the Superhero throne was surprising. Let’s dive into Starr’s comments and explore the deeper implications of his critique.

Antony Starr Claims Batman Is “Just A Guy”
Anthony Starr did not hold back while talking about Batman. “He’s not a superhero,” Starr stated. “He’s actually a guy running around in a bat outfit with some fancy toys & a chip on his shoulder about money…” he added.
That’s a direct hit to the core of Batman’s character. He further talked about liking Batman when he was younger and then realizing that “he was just a guy” as he grew up. Starr’s comments also raise an interesting point about resources. Batman is undeniably wealthy, using his vast fortune to fund his crime-fighting crusade.
Additionally, This raises the question: can one truly be a hero without the financial backing to support it? Marvel Comics’ Iron Man needed his Stark Industries resources, and even Black Widow benefited from S.H.I.E.L.D.’s technological edge. However, is wealth a prerequisite for heroism?
Characters like Spider-Man or Luke Cage prove otherwise. They fight for justice despite their lack of obscene wealth. So, while Batman’s resources undeniably give him an advantage, they don’t define his heroism. Moreover, Starr’s critique ended on a more positive note. He expressed excitement about the future of DC under the leadership of James Gunn.

Homelander vs. Batman: Who Would Win?
Anthony Starr’s critique highlights a key difference between Homelander and Batman. Homelander, despite his immense power, craves public validation and control. He sees himself as a symbol, a celebrity, a figure above the law.
Batman, on the other hand, operates in the shadows. He’s driven by a personal vendetta, a desire for justice fueled by a tragic past. Additionally, there’s no cape-flapping self-promotion with Batman; he’s a Dark Knight indeed.
Now the question is can Batman take down Homelander? If fans go with comic book accuracy, Homelander is nowhere near Superman and Batman has defeated his Kryptonian friend with his intelligence. In addition, guys like Butcher and his Boys have pushed “Homeboy” to his limits. So fans are more biased toward the notion that Bruce can easily beat Homelander and put him in the body bag.
However, Homelander is much more vicious with corrupted morals and will be completely unhinged. So, he also has a slight chance of ending the Dark Knight if he catches him off-guard.
