He does not have any obvious successor as his wife and child die during labor. His only child is a girl who is deemed unfit to rule. In one scene, Viserys cuts his finger on the Iron Throne.

Why Are The Targaryens Called The Blood Of Old Valyria?
The House Targaryen is one of the most powerful houses in Westeros. They are most feared as they have control over the dragons. The moniker blood of valyria is used to describe them.
Valyrians also known as the blood of old valyria are names used for the people who are native to the Valyrian Peninsula, on the continent of Essos.
The Valyrian empire ruled the continent for thousands of years until the cataclysmic event called the doom or doom of valyria destroyed the entire region.
They were the descendants of the House Targaryens hence the name was passed to them. The phrase “blood of the dragon” is also used as they were one of forty dragonlord at that time.
