‘House Of The Dragon’ keeps on adding to the lore with new episodes dropping every week. With the new episode 5 of season 2, we get to know the real intentions of Daemon Targaryen. He declares his intention of becoming a king which is different from the actual plot line of the book.
At first, it seemed like he was making up for his regrets which happened to Rhaenyra. But Daemon gathered an army to help and support his wife and he later changed his decision and decided to use that army for his own use.

Daemon Declaring To Be King Is A Major Plot Change For ‘House Of The Dragon’
Daemon Targaryen’s decision changed the George R.R. Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood’ plot. Daemon choosing to become the king has changed the plotline of the book. He gathered an army to support his wife to claim the Iron Throne. But later he used that army in the Riverlands for himself.
Daemon Targaryen supports Rhaenyra’s claim to the iron throne from Harrenhal and even helps her take the king’s landings. Here, Demon’s mother plays an influential role. She reminds him that the iron throne should be his and that he can still take it.
It’s Daemon’s vision of his mother that also convinces him that he should be the heir and should take the throne. He has Team Black’s strongest dragon with him, he has an army of people to help him and he also has a massive castle. Even Daemon losing the support of the Overlords is a removal from the book.

Why Makers Of The Show Changed Daemon’s Story?
The reason for which the show makers decided to change the plot of the book isn’t that deep. Daemon’s character was fading a bit in the storyline. There is very little information about his time in the castle, which makes his character appear less in the book. Hence to elevate Daemon’s character, they introduced things like vision which added more to the narrative.
But they also made him an antagonist towards Rhaenyra. Moreover, the show’s greatest conflict comes from the two greatest relationships, those being Daemon and Alicent.
Changing the original plot of the book is much easier in ‘House Of Dragon‘. The ‘Fire And Blood’ universe has conflicting sources and no real truth, hence it’s easy to build or change the story around it. Having Daemon as the king changes the plot but it also creates problems for further story.
