Why Is Corlys Velaryon Called Sea Snake?
HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon‘ has introduced some really interesting and powerful characters, one of them is Lord Corlys also known as the sea snake. But what’s the story behind this name?
Ser Corlys Velaryon made nine Great Voyages aboard the Sea Snake in the East. This was before inheriting the lordship of House Velaryon from his grandfather.
All these expeditions garnered Corlys a lot of wealth from Essos, including stops at Qarth, Leng, and Yi Ti. On the last journey, he loaded the Sea Snake with gold and bought 20 ships in Qarth.
This allowed him to sail most of them back to Westeros with spices, elephants, and silk. He acquired his nickname, the Sea Snake, from the ship. Corlys also built the High Tide using the wealth of the Sea Snake.

Steve Toussaint Calls Out Racist Viewers Of ‘House Of The Dragon’
Steve Toussaint, who plays Lord Corlys Velaryon, has faced racist comments for his participation in ‘House of the Dragon‘.
In an interview, Steve slammed people who have an issue with the show’s casting. He said: “It seems to be very hard for people to swallow. They are happy with a dragon flying.”
“They’re happy with white hair and violet-colored eyes, but a rich Black guy? That’s beyond the pale,” he continued.
Steve also talked about the support he has received. “What has been wonderful is for every toxic person that has somehow found their way into my timeline, there have been so many others who have been so supportive and been like, ‘Oh my god, I can’t wait, this is going to be great! Even when we were doing certain scenes, there would be supporting artists who would come up and go, ‘It’s great to have this representation.”
