‘Suits‘ has proven to be an underdog in the world of TV shows after it rose to unprecedented fame as soon as it hit streaming platforms like Netflix and Peacock. The show was wrapped up in 2019 after 10 seasons, but its reach wasn’t nearly as much as it has grown in the past year.
While the crew and cast of the show are already happy for the show getting the recognition it deserves, ‘Suits‘ is gaining more and more popularity across the globe. It also marked its presence in several award functions this year. Meanwhile, the creator of the show has revealed something about it that could change its entire narrative.

Aaron Korsh Says Harvey Specter Was Envisioned To Be An Old Man On ‘Suits’
The mastermind behind ‘Suits‘, Aaron Korsh recently said that the show’s production was considering a creative decision that could have entirely changed the narrative between the two lead characters of the show. Harvey Specter, played by Gabriel Macht, and Mike Ross, played by Patrick J Adams, share a brotherly relationship on the show apart from being each other’s professional mates.
During an interview on the ‘Hollywood & Levine’ podcast, Korsh said that the network executives of the show originally envisioned a father-and-son dynamic between Harvey and Mike. They also proposed that Harvey’s character should be in his fifties, while Mike would be younger.
However, Korsh had a different vision and was clear about the relationship dynamic he wanted his lead characters to have. “I didn’t like the relationship of father and son as much. But I also thought… if this guy is 50 years old and still hitting on women, and… like, I just didn’t think that was like, that’s, that’s not great, right?” he said.
“As opposed to, you’re in your mid-late 30s. You’re a little stunted. You have growing to do. But you’re not like 50 years old living that single, you know, womanizing life.” he added. “So we went through so many weeks, we auditioned a ton of people, and it was hard to get agreement and whatever.”

Putting Harvey In His Late-30s Enabled Many Different Narratives On ‘Suits’
But ultimately, casting Gabriel Macht as Harvey solidified the character’s trajectory. Korsh said he stuck to his vision, and the casting helped him get the brotherly dynamic between Harvey and Mike in place. Fortunately, it went on to become the hallmark relationship on the show, and an important factor that drove its story.
Korsh further asserted that maintaining Harvey as a fairly young character also made his relationships with other people more dynamic. Apart from Harvey’s relationship with Mike, his age also enabled other important relationships on the show including the one he shared with Sarah Rafferty’s character, Donna Paulsen. Harvey and Donna are one of the most loved couples on ‘Suits‘, which perhaps would not have been as effective if Harvey was an old man.
The decision to keep Harvey in his mid-late 30s ultimately shaped the trajectory of ‘Suits’, thanks to Korsh who adamantly stuck with his vision. As the sequel to ‘Suits‘ is in the works with an entirely new cast, Korsh hinted at potential crossovers with the old characters as well. Meanwhile, ‘Suits‘ is available for streaming on Netflix and Peacock.
