‘How I Met Your Mother‘ fanbase reunited after eight years for ‘How I Met Your Father‘. The narration of ‘HIMYF‘ falls in line with ‘HIMYM’, with Hilary Duff’s Sophie hanging out with her friends in 2022, in pursuit to find her soulmate. This multi-cam series shifts between the present and future, when Sophie narrates the story of how she met “the father” to her kids.
Created by Issac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, ‘HIMTF‘ picks up nine years in the future after the finale of ‘HIMYM‘. ‘How I Met Your Father‘ follows a different group of five friends in their late 20s and early 30s as they try to balance their relationships and careers. The executive producer Issac Aptaker told in an interview, “People keep referring to the show as a ‘reboot’, and it’s not a reboot”. Although both the series don’t share much of similarities, there are a few uncanny connections that are unavoidable.

Is ‘How I Met Your Father’ Related To ‘ How I Met Your Mother’?
It is not only the titular similarities that both series share. It is more than just the title – including the involvement of the protagonist’s future children. The theme of both shows is the same: finding love and a soulmate. ‘HIMYM‘ opens with Marshal proposing to Lily and staying together till the end of the show. Similarly, Sid from ‘HIMYF’ talks about his proposal plans and later carries them out. The Goliath National Bank is still around. In episode eight of ‘HIMYF‘, Ellen is seen picking an outfit for her interview at the corporate office of Goliath National Bank. It is possible that she is working in the headquarters that was designed by Ted Mosby.
Jesse and Sid bring the gang into their apartment at the end of the series premiere. Jesse mentions they got the apartment from an “old married couple who posted it on the Wesleyan alumni group.” This reference indicates that the couple was Lily and Marshal as they both graduated from Wesleyan. Both the couples – Jesse and Sophie and Ted and Robin started with friend zones after the failure of the initial date.

Which Characters From ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Appear In ‘How I Met Your Father’?
After the end of ‘How I Met You Mother,‘ the fans have been in desperate wait to see the gang come together. Since “How I Met Your Father” marks as a sequel to the original series, there are expectations that the gang would reunite. But so far only four of the original cast members have made a cameo appearance on ‘How I Met Your Father.‘
The Captain (Kyle MacLachlan) and his wife Becky (Laura Bell Bundy) make an appearance in the series. This duo is iconic and delivered some of the funniest moments on ‘How I Met Your Mother‘. At the end of season one, world-famous reporter Cobie Smulders’ Robin Scherbatsky advises Sophie about her relationship with Jesse. The most iconic cameo of all is “Legen-wait for it-Dary”. That’s right! Barney Stinson (Neil Pattrick Harrison) makes a cameo appearance in the finale of season two.
