Jason Sudeikis Talks About Ted Lasso
You might be amused to know why Jason decided to make Ted Lasso kinder, more agreeable and added a bit of warmth and fuzziness. He had originally planned the character to be “belligerent”. It has to do with the ex-US President, Donald Trump.
While speaking with The Guardian, Jason talked about a 2015 dinner date with his ex-wife Olivia Wilde. He went on to say, “It was the culture we were living in. I’m not terribly active online and it even affected me. Then you have Donald Trump coming down the escalator. I was like, ‘OK, this is silly,’ and then what he unlocked in people… I hated how people weren’t listening to one another.“
Jason Sudeikis further added: “Things became very binary and I don’t think that’s the way the world works.” Sudeikis also pointed out, “And, as a new parent – we had our son Otis in 2014 – it was like, ‘Boy, I don’t want to add to this.’”
These made Sudeikis rethink his character and make him more friendly. And it all worked out nicely because the audience loved the warm and kind Ted Lasso. Not only that, the cast of the series even made it to the Oval Office to meet with President Joe Biden and have a talk on mental health.
