‘House Of The Dragon‘ season 2 finale came with several surprises for fans, creating high frenzy around Daemon Targaryen’s vision wherein he gets a glimpse of the future with Daenerys Targaryen emerging from the ashes. While the moment came as a defining twist leading Daemon to bend the knee in front of Rhaenyra, that might just be his misinterpretation.
It seemed that the season finale made it amply clear that Daenarys is the Prince Who Was Promised. But showrunner Ryan Condal seems to be on a shaky ground about it, as he stated that although Daenerys was featured in the vision, that does not confirm she is the Promised Prince. Many fans, already shocked by the revelation, are now questioning why Jon Snow was not featured instead of her then. Here’s what Condal has to say.

Ryan Condal On Why Jon Snow Was Not Featured In The Vision
During a recent interaction with reporters, ‘House of the Dragon‘ showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed that Daenarys may not be the Prince who was promised contrary to Daemon Targaryen’s belief as shown in the season 2 finale. While the news left fans puzzled, many of them also questioned why Jon Snow is absent from the narrative, especially when his real identity is Aegon Targaryen — the legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark.
This makes him a Targaryen and a contender for the fabled Prince Who Was Promised. Besides, the semantics behind the term being masculine (Prince, not Princess) also adds to the speculation. And yet, Jon Snow is nowhere present in the show’s narrative so far.
Explaining the reasons for the same, Condal said, “We are not trying to make any kind of specific interpretation of a prophecy that has yet to be revealed by its author,” Condal told reporters during a Zoom press conference on Monday.
“That is George’s world and George’s space to tell that story. We’re more interested in playing with the character drama that lives in and around that imagery,” he said, adding that Jon Snow’s absence stems from what is “just a more complex idea.”
He continued, “The connectivity for us is specifically in and around the dragons.” Condal said, “This is not a spoiler for anybody who hasn’t read the book, but we know that in this world, we have 17 dragons — whatever the exact number is at this at this point — and in the world where we first meet Daenerys and she’s staring across the Narrow Sea at her lost empire, there are zero dragons.”

Ryan Condal Explains Daemon’s Thoughts
The decision to pick Daenerys in the vision also has something to do with Daemon. Ryan Condal explained, “The connectiveness between this family and the family to come, and Daemon seeing something that we know who that is watching that image, Daemon has no idea.”
“That could be his future daughter with Rhaenyra who has three dragons born. He doesn’t know, but he is sensing that this was something that was shown to me for a specific reason,” Condal continued. “We know Rhaenyra is already kind of running with this idea of the Prince Who Was Promised,” he added.
“If Daemon also believes that that is Rhaenyra, as we’ve seen him say to her in High Valyrian in [the finale], there’s a very interesting thing that can be done with his interpretation of that reality as we move forward. So for that reason, I think it was important that it was Daenerys, the image,” the showrunner said.
While the anticipation for the next season was already heavy, Condal’s revelation has added yet another layer of intrigue to the upcoming season of the show.
