Despite being one of the most popular and beloved shows on Netflix, ‘The Witcher‘ has been facing quite a lot of problems recently. After Henry Cavill left the show, creators announced that the series has been cancelled with just two more seasons on the way. It is confirmed that season 5 of the show would be its last.
Though season 4 and 5 of the show are already under production with Liam Hemsworth taking on the role from Henry Cavill, the news received mixed reactions from fans. In another disappointing move for fans, Netflix also canceled, ‘The Rats‘, a spin-off series of ‘The Witcher‘. Here’s what happened.

Why Did Netflix Cancel ‘The Rats’?
‘The Rats’, a spin-off of ‘The Witcher‘, was planned to be based on the flashbacks from the original series. Despite the prequel being well into production for the past two months, Netflix decided to cancel it.
The spin-off getting cancelled just days after creators of ‘The Witcher‘ announced its end with season 5 and without Henry Cavill in the lead role, came as a huge shock for fans who had their hopes riding on the spin-off. According to the Redanian Intelligence, Netflix decided to cancel ‘The Rats‘ after watching an already filmed footage of the show and it seems like they weren’t quite impressed by it.
Actress Juliette Alexandra also confirmed that ‘The Rats‘ prequel is cancelled through an update in her resume. Her resume earlier read, “Juliette will return to S4 of The Witcher as one of The Rats, as well as in the spin off highlighting the backstory of these characters.” But the statement was removed later.

‘The Witcher’ Fans Were Disappointed By Henry Cavill’s Departure
In another bad news that came parallelly, Netflix announced the cancellation of ‘The Witcher‘ after its fifth season. The streaming platform released a short montage related to the upcoming season 4 of ‘The Witcher‘ which also included other cast members including Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, and Joey Batey, among others.
Meanwhile, the production of both seasons 4 and 5 of ‘The Witcher‘ is underway, but without Henry Cavill. Liam Hemsworth is playing the lead role, and has already been wished best by his predecessor.
After Netflix’s announcement, Henry Cavill shared a heartfelt post to bid goodbye to the show.“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf,” he wrote in his social media post. Viewership of ‘The Witcher‘ was badly hit after Henry Cavill’s departure, though show makers now expect season 4 to perform well and bring back its lost glory.
