Amazon Prime Video has steadily built a rich and diverse library of shows and movies, constantly launching new releases that cater to a global audience. But for years, ‘The Boys’ has stood as the platform’s most beloved and defining production.

As the show approaches its final season, an unexpected competitor has entered the scene. The hockey romance series ‘Off Campus’ has somehow managed to take the internet by storm. The most surprising part? It has surpassed ‘The Boys’ as the new Prime Video sensation within days of its release.

The College Romance Pushed ‘The Boys’ From The Charts Within A Day

Prime Video’s new series ‘Off Campus‘ has overtaken ‘The Boys‘ to become the platform’s most-watched show globally, only four days before ‘The Boys‘ Season 5 finale airs. ‘Off Campus‘ reached the No. 1 position worldwide just one day after its May 13 release. And, quickly, it climbed streaming charts across several regions, including the United States.

The series has since stayed within the top two positions globally, pushing ‘The Boys‘ out of the top spot it had held since its latest season debut. The sudden rise has made ‘Off Campus‘ one of Prime Video’s biggest recent breakout titles, especially because it arrived with a very different tone from the violent superhero drama it replaced.

Much like ‘Bridgerton’, the series follows an anthology format, with each installment focusing on a new couple. Created by Louisa Levy and adapted from Elle Kennedy’s bestselling 2015 novel ‘The Deal‘, ‘Off Campus‘ follows Hannah Wells, a music student at Briar University, played by Ella Bright, and Garrett Graham, the hockey team captain, played by Belmont Cameli. The story begins when Hannah agrees to tutor Garrett, while he pretends to be her boyfriend so she can catch the attention of her crush, Justin Kohl, played by Josh Heuston.

The fake relationship arrangement soon grows into something more complicated, which gives the show its main romantic pull. The cast also includes Garrett’s hockey teammates and roommates John Logan, Dean Di Laurentis, and John Tucker, played by Antonio Cipriano, Stephen Kalyn, and Jalen Thomas Brooks, along with Hannah’s roommate and best friend Allie Hayes, played by Mika Abdalla.

Prime Video had already renewed ‘Off Campus‘ for Season 2 before the first season even premiered back in February. The upcoming season is expected to adapt ‘The Mistake‘, the second book in the series. In that will bring Logan’s romance with Grace Ivers to the screen. India Fowler has officially joined the cast as Grace for the second season.

Cameli, 28, and Bright, 19, also confirmed on May 15 that Season 2 will begin filming later this month. “We’ll be there in a few days,” Cameli revealed. Bright added, “I’ve got two [scripts] in my inbox that I have yet to read because of this press tour. But [I will] when I fly home.”

The show has also drawn natural comparisons to ‘Heated Rivalry‘. It’s another hockey romance that became a major internet sensation in late 2025. That series arrived with a low budget, two unknown leads, and six episodes that pulled millions of viewers into a hockey-driven romance. It turned Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams into household names and even brought more attention to the NHL.

Still, ‘Off Campus’ stands apart from ‘Heated Rivalry’ in many ways. While ‘Heated Rivalry‘ explores a queer love story within the closeted, hyper-masculine world of elite hockey, ‘Off Campus‘ focuses on a straight couple who date publicly. The two shows share the hockey romance label, but their themes, emotional stakes, and relationship dynamics move in different directions.

The show may not reinvent the romance genre, but its early success proves that Prime Video has found another major crowd-puller. And for now, it has even pushed ‘The Boys‘ off the top of the chart.
