‘Outer Banks’: What To Expect From The Fifth And Final Season Of The Netflix Thriller

Netflix’s hit show ‘Outer Banks is sailing toward sunset, but it’s “Pogues 4 Life” for the cast. To fans’ delight, the streaming giant announced in November 2024 the renewal of ‘Outer Banks‘ for its fifth and final season. The teen adventure series featuring Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Rudy Pankow, Jonathan Daviss, and Carlacia Grant will come to a halt with one last wild ride.

The show’s creators, including the dynamic trio of Shannon Burke and brothers Jonas and Josh Pate, took to social media to share a heartfelt “dispatch to all Pogues,” revealing how the adventure began back in 2017. Here’s what they said and what can be expected from the final season of the show.

The shocking death in the season four finale of ‘Outer Banks‘ has left many fans baffled. However, the creators of the show have got some good news for the disheartened fans. Shannon Burke and brothers Jonas and Josh Pate revealed what the show may have in store for the fans even as the rumors of its ultimate end are afloat.

In the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage,” the letter posted on Instagram by the trio explained. “The photo sparked an idea for a story of four best friends who only want to have a good time all the time,” the letter read. “From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting and friendship,” it continued.

While they have largely kept the details of the last season locked away, they do hint that the show-stopping finale in the fourth season has paved the way for an “epic” conclusion. They also hope to join the Pogues for one more paddle out to the surf break.

We hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago,” they wrote to fans. “We hope you’ll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break.”

What To Expect From ‘Outer Banks’ Season 5?

Though an official synopsis for Netflix for the show is not available yet, we do know the treasure hunt for the Blue Crown will take us to the series finale. But that’s not all. Fans are currently reeling from the shocking death of JJ, killed by his biological father in Morocco. Revenge is coming, and the Pogues have vowed to see Chandler Groff aka J. Anthony Crane, get what’s coming to him.

JJ’s tragic death wasn’t an accident, it was planned from day one, as Josh Pate clarified. “We’re planning a story of redemption, and a season that embodies the friendship that JJ had come to represent,” he said.  Of course, there’s heartbreak in the narrative, but the show makers want to honor JJ’s memory in a way that will transcend to the fans themselves.

But don’t expect every moment to be tearful. We are also about to see John B and Sarah Cameron become parents when the “Kook turned Pogue princess” discovered in season 4 that she was pregnant.

Who’s Coming Back For Season 5?

The majority of the main cast will be coming back, including Stokes as John B, Cline as Sarah, Bailey as Kiara, Daviss as Pope, and Grant as Cleo. However, since JJ isn’t around anymore, Pankow won’t be returning. Pankow got a bittersweet goodbye from the show after his character’s apparent death.

I want to leave the cast and crew with the biggest thank-you. It’s been such a pleasure to come to work,” he told Tudum. “This is by far the biggest thing I’ve ever done in [my] experience, and to have this as my start is a start of a lifetime. I’m going to miss it. Thank you for so many fun memories I’ll have the rest of my life.”

While the cast is already carrying the load of the final season, Stokes took to Instagram to thank fans of the show. “My heart’s heavy writing this one… One last ride. It’s always gonna be Pogues 4 Life,” he wrote in the post.

Season 5 of the show hasn’t gone into production yet, so the wait is really on for ‘Outer Banks‘ fans. However, the script is in the works. So fans can be rest assured that the last adventure will be worth the wait. Moreover, its creators have also made some concrete promises, as they declared, “We think it will be our best [season] yet.”
