Selena Gomez is an integral part of ‘Only Murders In The Building‘s golden trio, and her Emmy nominations are proof of that. The actress, who has worked on the show for three successful seasons received a lot of positive reviews on her role in the show as Mabel Mora, making it perhaps the second most loved role in her career, second only to her Disney role as Alex Russo.
The central cast of the series consists of Steve Martin and Martin Short and Gomez herself, who brings most of her logic, straight face jokes and youth to the combo. However, her getting cast in the show almost didn’t happen. Here’s how Selena Gomez got her role in ‘Only Murders In The Building’.
How Selena Gomez Got Cast In ‘Only Murders In The Building’
‘Only Murders In The Building’ is perhaps one of the standout comedy shows in business as of now. The show has received over 25 Emmy Award nominations and five Golden Globe Award nominations. The chemistry between Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez—a formidable detective trio—is unquestionably responsible for the show’s success.
But as Gomez has revealed, things could have really gone south in the show if not for a major casting choice. The actress disclosed that she was nearly not cast in the series since the starring trio initially had three male actors.
“My understanding is that Steve said he wouldn’t be in it unless Marty was in it. So we got Marty and that was the beginning before I was involved” she said then added, “Steve met with John Hoffman and they spoke and it was actually some of the producers’ collective idea of having a female but not only a female, someone completely generations off. Steve said he loved the idea and thought it was really fun.”
She continued, “But I couldn’t have been luckier because they called me… It happened, and I can’t picture the show with three men.”

Mabel (Selena Gomez), Charles, (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short) will be investigating who killed Sazz, if they were really going after Charles, and why anybody would want to kill either of them in season four of the show.
It was also announced that the first episode of the next season will release on August 27. After which there will be one episode released every week.
As for the cast, the usual members will be there with Meryl Streep returning for another season and hopefully Paul Rudd as well. Apart from that, Molly Shannon, Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, Kumail Nanjiani and Zach Galifianakis are also joining the star studded cast.
