‘The Big Bang Theory‘ is up there on the list of one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. The show garnered millions of fans following the lives and loves of the group of nerdy and quirky friends. While most of the gang finds their happy endings in the series finale including our resident weirdo Sheldon, one of them unfortunately remained unlucky in love: Rajesh Koothrappali.
Raj, artfully played by Kunal Nayyar, was the shy and awkward astrophysicist who struggled to talk to women without alcohol earlier on in the show. He had several romantic interests throughout the entire show, but sadly for him none of them lasted. So, does Raj finally find the woman for him or does he remain single?

Why ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Kept Raj Single In The End?
Anu played by Rati Gupta, was perhaps Raj’s most serious girlfriend on ‘The Big Bang Theory‘. She was a hotel concierge and was set up with Raj by their parents. They both had a lot in common, apart from their Indian heritage. They wanted to get married and start a family. They were even engaged, however, to the disappointment of both Raj and the fans, it did not last.
In the series finale, Raj decides to break up with Anu so that she can pursue her dream job in London. Raj was always a hopeless romantic and he realized he wanted to find true love instead of just settling for someone he barely knew. Their relationship was one of convenience and pressure and not of love.

Raj Enjoyed Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Company In The End
The finale brought a surprising twist into Raj’s love life. Raj somehow winds up sitting next to actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, or as many know her ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer‘ on the plane to Sweden, where he was going to attend the Nobel Prize ceremony for Sheldon and Amy. He convinced her to join him as his date at the event, even though she barely knew him and thought he was weird.
Sarah Michelle Gellar plays herself in this cameo appearance. It was left unclear whether she had any romantic interest in Raj or not. While she seemed to be annoyed by his constant talking and his attempts to take selfies with her, she did smile and held his hand at one point. It is possible that Raj and Sarah Michelle Gellar might have hit it off after the ceremony but it is more likely that they parted ways as strangers. Either way, it was a fun and unexpected way to end Raj’s story on the show.
