If you think your job is hard, think about being held captive by a serial killer and having to act as his therapist. This is the premise of the upcoming FX thriller, ‘The Patient’. The trailer of the series shows Steve Carell as the therapist and Domhnall Gleeson as the serial killer.
The trailer is quite tense with danger looming in every breath. The limited series containing 10 episodes premieres on August 30 on Hulu.

‘The Patient’ Trailer Is Dark, Thrilling
“I’m not normal,” Sam Fortner – the serial killer – declares in ‘The Patient’ trailer as Alan Strauss – the therapist – sits in his chair and takes notes. Fortner admits that he needs to get better but he doesn’t know what to do with his homicidal urges. So, he does what he thinks can help. He takes Strauss hostage for counsel about his murderous spirit. However, the therapist himself is dealing with the death of his wife and constantly thinking about how to repair his relationship with his estranged son. In order to survive, he goes to huge lengths.
Strauss makes it clear that a safe environment is needed for the therapy to work. So, what will the serial killer do? Will he be able to mend his ways or make the therapist his next target?

The show’s synopsis reads, “During the course of his imprisonment, Alan uncovers not only how deep Sam’s compulsion runs, but also how much work he has to do to repair the rift in his own family. With time running out, Alan fights desperately to stop Sam before Alan becomes complicit in Sam’s murders or worse — becomes a target himself.”
The show has been created by Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg, who helmed ‘The Americans‘. The supporting cast includes Linda Emond, David Alan Grier, Laura Niemi, and Andrew Leeds. It is executive-produced by Steve Carell, Fields, Weisberg, Caroline Moore, Victor Hsu, and Chris Long.
