Ulf White‘s career in ‘House of the Dragon‘ has been incredibly turbulent. The tale of a peasant boy who unexpectedly inherits one of Westeros’ most powerful dragons has turned into something darker.
Ulf was a valuable asset to Rhaenyra Targaryen after he claimed Silverwing. Instead, resentment toward the Blacks, combined with his treatment by both sides, pushed him into betrayal. However, in the final episode of Season 3, Ulf goes to a whole new level of betrayal. He doesn’t just help the Greens; he attacks both armies at Tumbleton.
Ulf Burns Everyone And Flees In ‘House Of The Dragon’ Season 3 Finale
When Ulf finally brings Silverwing into battle, it is terrible. He blasts the Blacks army with dragonfire, but he doesn’t end there. Ulf also fights off the Hightowers, killing Ormund Hightower and Ser Roderick Dustin. There are so many people caught up in the destruction that Tumbleton is left devastated.

It’s nearly a hilarious misfortune that Ulf tries to choose a side. He effectively decides that if both factions don’t like him, he’ll just burn them both. Following the massacre, Ulf escapes on Silverwing, and Caraxes and Vermithor follow him.
Suddenly, the former dragonseed isn’t a valuable soldier anymore. He’s a dangerous loose cannon who has betrayed practically everyone. And that’s a big issue for the final season.
Ulf’s Future Could Be Completely Different Than In The Books
George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood has a vastly different ending for Ulf. In the book, he is still involved with the Greens following the first Battle of Tumbleton, and is one of the infamous Two Betrayers, along with Hugh Hammer. Eventually, Ulf is poisoned after the Second Battle of Tumbleton.

When he dies, Silverwing is left without a rider and lives like a wild dragon. The TV show has already made numerous changes to Ulf’s story, and his eventual fate is hard to foresee. It’s possible the show could still do the poisoning, but the circumstances would have to be entirely different.
Ulf isn’t sitting comfortably at Tumbleton anymore, and his relationship with the other major players has been dramatically altered. More significantly, Ulf is now an easy target for both sides. It would be interesting if he survived, but it’s not a simple thing to hide forever when you’re on a gigantic dragon.
