Sam Levinson will be translating the summer sultriness along with a dark, twisted tale of the pop industry with ‘The Idol.’ The HBO show stars debutants Lily Rose-Depp and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, along with other stellar cast members. It is the story of the rise of a pop star, Jocelyn, to fame when she meets a producer, Tedros, and the two experiment with love, but there is something more in store for the pop star.
‘The Idol’ was recently screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2023. Lily Rose-Depp, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Sam Levinson, and Jennie attended the premiere of the show. At the event, the series received a standing ovation for five minutes. The series is filled with a lot of raw and raunchy scenes, which may hint at an intense set environment. But the actress has said that none of the actors went “full-method,” including The Weeknd, who has an intense character in the series.

Lily Rose-Depp Admitted That No One Lost Their Minds On The Sets Of ‘The Idol’
‘The Idol’ has garnered a lot of attention due to the content of the series. Apart from a great line-up of talent, the storyline and the controversy surrounding the series have piqued the interest of viewers. The story is said to be “the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood.” It is about “a female pop singer who starts a romance with an enigmatic LA club owner who is a leader of a secret cult.”
Sam Levinson has this notorious image of a director who spices things up with a complex, substance-driven, and sensuality-driven narrative. So, when the story is so intense, the actors may have gone full Konstantin Stanislavski with their characters. But Lily Rose-Depp, who plays Jocelyn in the series, has debunked the myth.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she talked about the on-the-set set. She said, “I don’t think anybody went full method — nobody lost their minds. Well, sometimes when Abel would get — I don’t want to reveal too much about where Abel’s character goes, but when he would be in full Tedros mode sometimes, I would steer clear of him. I’d be like, ‘He’s in his zone right now.’ “

The Weeknd Confesses To Have Sacrificed His Health And Home To Make The Series Work
Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye is serving as one of the executive producers along with starring in ‘The Idol.’ Though Lily refuted the claims that actors may have gone full-method with their acting, The Weeknd immersed himself in the character. In 2022, he lost his voice while he was performing in Los Angeles at the SoFi stadium. During an interview with W Magazine, Abel talked about reflecting on the incident.
The Weeknd said, “When everyone around me is worried, I get very still. But I did panic when I lost my voice. I had to rest, reflect, and think about The Weeknd and Tedros and all that had happened with the show. I realized that I need to know that I’ve made the best version of whatever I’m making.”
The ‘Blinding Lights’ singer continued, “It was a challenge to redo The Idol, and, in truth, I sacrificed my health and home to make it work. So, let’s say it comes out and it’s fucking horrible. I still know I did my absolute best. From what I’ve seen, the show is great. Everything is a risk. When you’ve done the best you can, I would call that a happy ending. And I got my voice back.”
