On 26 September 2022, HBO had released the trailer of ‘The Last of Us‘. The trailer only indicated that the video game turned series will be out in 2023, until recently a leak from the HBO Max app made the dates public.
The show is mostly based on ‘The Last of Us 1’, the first part of the game series. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will star as the two main leads – Joel and Ellie. Let’s learn more about the much-anticipated show.
What Can We Learn About ‘The Last Of Us’ From The Game Series?
‘The Last of Us’ is a game series developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is set in a post-apocalyptic USA. It shows how in 2013, a mutant fungus broke out that turned the people in contact into aggressive creatures known as ‘Infected’.
Joel and his partner are smugglers and in exchange for a weapon cache they have to escort a teenage girl, Ellie, to a rebel militia, Fireflies. One might wonder at the significance of this young girl to the authorities. But here’s the catch. Ellie has been infected with the fungus but is not showing any symptoms. She says her immunity to the fungus could lead to a cure.
The characters survive the weather, the ‘Infected’, and government patrol. In spring, they reach Salt Lake City. There, Joel learns Ellie will die in the process to create a vaccine. Joel does not accept this and murders the surgeon. He escapes with an unconscious Ellie. When she wakes up, he tells her that the Fireflies failed to make a vaccine, in order to save her guilt. How accurate the TV series might be, we will come to know soon enough.
