‘House of the Dragon‘ just premiered on Sunday and has received mostly mixed to positive responses. The HBO show is a prequel to ‘Game of Thrones‘ and is set nearly 200 years before its events. It introduced a plethora of new characters and storylines that seem interesting.
Centered around the House of Targaryen, the show follows their downfall and the Targaryen war of succession, known as the ‘Dance of the Dragons’. There were two characters that were loved by people – Lord Corlys Velaryon and Otto Hightower. They have been received really well.

Who Is Corlys Velaryon In ‘House Of The Dragon’?
‘House of the Dragon‘ has a number of new characters that were not mentioned in HBO’s previous show ‘Game of Thrones.’ This includes Corlys Velaryon And Otto Hightower.
Lord Corlys Velaryon, played by Steve Toussaint, is the head of House Velaryon and the most famous seafarer in Westeros. He is also known as the ‘sea snake.’
With Velaryon’s efforts, House Velaryon became a very powerful house wealthier than House Lannister. He also heads the most powerful navy in the entire world.
He is married to Princess Rhaenys who is also known as ‘The Queen Who Never Was’. They have two children, Lady Laena Velaryon and Ser Laenor Velaryon. His younger brother Ser Vaemond Velaryon is the commander of the Velaryon navy.
Before his marriage, Corlys was a wanderer and an adventurer. The reason he did not appear in ‘Game of Thrones‘ is that he existed nearly 200 years before that event.
Who Is Otto Hightower?
Ser Otto Hightower, played by Welsh actor Rhys Ifans, is the Hand of the King Viserys I Targaryen. He serves King Viserys and the realm and is one of his trusted men.
His closeness with the King resulted in a bitter political rivalry with Prince Daemon. According to Den of Geek, “Otto sees Prince Daemon’s desire for power as a threat to the realm and therefore uses his position to influence King Viserys’ perception of his brother.”
Hightower’s daughter Lady Alicent Hightower is also a part of the king’s inner circle. He was a knight who became the Hand of the King to Jaehaerys Targaryen when he lost his son, Baelon Targaryen.
Otto served as the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms after Jaehaerys was distraught by the death of his family. Later, when Viserys Targaryen was chosen as the next king by the Lords of Westeros, Otto stayed by his side.
As with Velaryon, Otto didn’t appear in the original show because his story takes place 200 years prior to the red wedding.
