If you love mysteries, secrets, and drama, chances are you’ll love ‘One Of Us Is Lying‘. The Netflix series is based on the bestselling novel by Karen M. McManus, which has captivated millions of readers around the world. The books sold over 3 million copies worldwide and have been translated into 40 languages.
The show follows a group of high school students who become suspects in a murder mystery after one of their classmates dies during detention. The show not only has been praised for its diverse representation but also for the shocking twist and turns that have kept everyone glued to their screens. But will it return for a third season? Here’s everything we know so far.
Was ‘One Of Us Is Lying’ Canceled?
Unfortunately, fans of ‘One Of Us Is Lying‘ will be disappointed to learn that the show has been canceled by Peacock, the US streaming service that produced it. According to Deadline, the show was axed due to low ratings and viewership. The show’s second season premiered on Peacock in October 2022 and on Netflix internationally in November 2022. The show’s creator and showrunner Erica Saleh expressed her sadness and gratitude on Twitter and so did many of the cast members.
Erica wrote on Twitter: “Making two seasons of One Of Us Is Lying was a joy and honor. I’m disappointed that our story won’t continue on Peacock, but I feel so lucky to have spent the past years alongside the best writers, cast, and crew I know, and so grateful to our fans for all the love and support.” Marianly Tejada, who plays Bronwyn Rojas, wrote: “I’m so grateful for this experience. Thank you to everyone who watched and supported us along the way. We love you all so much.”

Will There Be A Renewal?
Peacock’s decision to not renew ‘One Of Us Is Lying‘ for a third season, doesn’t necessarily mean the show is dead for good. There is still a possibility that another network or streaming service could pick up the show. This hope might not be misplaced as there have been many cases of shows being revived or saved by other platforms, such as ‘Lucifer’, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘, and ‘Manifest‘. Fans have been showing their support by watching the show on Netflix, signing petitions, and even tweeting with hashtags like #SaveOneOfUsIsLying. The show’s second season ended on a cliffhanger and Saleh told TVLine that she had plans for a third season that would explore “what deeper evil is lurking underneath the surface in Bayview”.
There is no dearth of source material as McManus has already published a sequel and even a third book is in the works. The sequel is called ‘One Of Us Is Next‘ and follows a new group of characters in Bayview High. The third book in the series which is due to come out in 2023 is titled ‘One Of Us Is Back‘, which will bring back some of the original characters and introduce new ones. So, while ‘One Of Us Is Lying season 3‘ is not happening on Peacock, there is still hope that it could happen somewhere else. Maybe one of us is lying about the show’s fate after all.
