‘House of the Dragon‘ is one of the most anticipated television shows of this year. A prequel to HBO’s successful ‘Game of Thrones‘, the show is set around 200 years before the events of the original. It is based on parts of George R. R. Martin’s 2018 novel ‘Fire & Blood.’
The horrible finale of ‘Game of Thrones‘ is still fresh in its viewer’s mind. There are chances that it might spill over ‘House of the Dragon‘ and impact its viewership. But the makers have been emphasizing that it’s a prequel and unlike the original show. We will have to find out the show’s fate.
Will ‘Game of Thrones’ Effect ‘House Of The Dragon’?
‘House of the Dragon‘ is set to premiere on August 21. Fans have been really excited about the show because of its source material.
But there might be chances that people might not watch it as the terrible finale of ‘Game of Thrones‘ is still fresh in the mind of the audience.
The early reviews of the show however say something else. Critics have been praising the fantasy drama. A reviewer from The Guardian called it “a roaring success” that is “as great as its predecessor in its heyday“.
The excitement is also visible on social media, especially Twitter.
I didn’t know how much I missed the #GameofThrones theme song until I heard it tonight at the #HouseoftheDragon premiere! That first episode is fantastic! Can’t wait to see what’s next. The early reviews and audience reaction are mostly positive so it’s safe to assume the original hasn’t affected its viewership.
Matt Smith Questioned The Sexual Content Of The Show
Matt Smith who portrays Prince Daemon Targaryen in ‘House of the Dragon‘, expressed his concern over the show’s sexual content.
In a recent interview, the actor said: “You do find yourself asking, ‘Do we need another sex scene?‘” The 39-year-old actor said. “And they’re like, ‘Yeah, we do.’ I guess you have to ask yourself: ‘What are you doing? Are you representing the books, or are you diluting the books to represent the time [we’re living in]?’
Smith continued, “And I actually think it’s your job to represent the books truthfully and honestly, as they were written.” He was asked whether his character has several steamy scenes in the show. The ‘Doctor Who‘ actor answered, “Yeah — slightly too much, if you ask me.”
Earlier, writer George R. R. Martin defended his work over the depiction of women and its sexual content.
