The casting of the ‘Hercules‘ live-action film has been a matter of intrigue as the production team has made no official announcements about it. However, occasional rumors suggested that Taron Edgerton and Ariana Grande were being considered for the roles of Hercules and Megara, respectively. However, Dua Lipa has now emerged as the potential new actress to take on Meg’s role.

According to DisInsider, pop star and actress Dua Lipa is in talks for playing Meg. Though there is no official confirmation about the cast, the source claimed that the studio “likes” her for the part.

In the original animated film, Megara starts as a reluctant accomplice to the villain Hades. However, she eventually betrays him and falls in love with the hero of the film, Hercules. The complex character arc makes the role an appealing one, and the production thinks Dua Lipa would perhaps be able to do justice to it.

However, the internet may have a different take on Dua taking on the role. Many questioned her acting skills. “She doesn’t have that main character appeal. She’s good in small amounts of screen time,” a fan wrote in the comments. “Literally disney has no imagination to make new content. Btw dual lipa does not look greek at all,” another user wrote.

Some others thought she was a perfect fit for the role. “Prefect casting! Just need Tom holland as Hercules,” a user commented. “Absolutely the perfect casting choice,” another one wrote.

In 2022, the Russo brothers also opened up about their involvement with the ‘Hercules‘ project. During an interview, they asserted that their adaptation would not be a “literal translation” of the original film.

Both us and our kids are Hercules fanatics. We had heard that Disney was interested in revisiting it, and we’re in love with the original. We made a case for why we felt we would be right to produce that film, and here we are,” Anthony Russo said.

Joe Russo said that they would make the film with a fresh approach. “We don’t do literal translations of the comics because if you want that story, you can go read that story. We’re going to give you a different story. I think we’ll do something that’s in the vein of the original and inspired by it, but we also bring new elements to the table,” he added.

Some unconfirmed reports also suggest that Guy Ritchie might have parted ways with the project, but no official confirmation has been made.

The original ‘Hercules‘ animated film was released in 1997. It followed the story of Hercules, the son of gods who is forced to live among mortals as a half-man, half-god after being snatched by Hades. As a teenager, Hercules needs to prove himself worthy of living with the gods on Mount Olympus.
