Netflix has not announced a third season of ‘Ransom Canyon‘, but Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly already know where they want the story to go next. Rather than wondering whether the hit romantic Western will return, both stars have started imagining the future they hope awaits Staten Kirkland and Quinn O’Grady.
Their ideas suggest Season 3 could take the fan-favorite couple into an entirely new stage of their relationship if Netflix gives the series another renewal.
Josh Duhamel And Minka Kelly Are Already Thinking About Season 3 Of ‘Ransom Canyon’
‘Ransom Canyon‘s second season brought Quinn O’Grady back to town and placed her once again at the center of Staten Kirkland’s life. Across eight episodes, the series explored the pair’s evolving relationship, introduced a new love interest, welcomed several country music guest stars, and ended on a note that leaves plenty of room for another chapter.
Despite no announcement, Kelly already has a clear vision for what she wants the writers to tackle next. Instead of adding bigger twists, she hopes the story explores what happens after two people decide to build a future together.
“The fascinating dynamic of the mundane—the mundanity and domesticity; just like really getting into the nuts and bolts of what it takes to really build a life together,” Kelly told Country Living.
She said the next season could ask questions many romance stories rarely spend time answering. “Like, ‘Okay, let’s see what you’ve got,’ you know? Are they going to have a baby? Do they both want the same things when it comes to building a life together? When you see each other’s ugliest parts, do you still choose each other? [There are] endless possibilities that I’m excited to explore, if we’re lucky.”
Kelly Already Has Plenty Of Ideas For Staten And Quinn’s Future
Kelly’s vision moves beyond simply keeping Staten and Quinn together. She wants viewers to watch them deal with everyday life, make difficult decisions, and discover whether love alone is enough.
Questions about marriage, children, compromise, and accepting each other’s flaws are the stories she finds most exciting. Rather than revisiting another cycle of breakups and reunions, Kelly believes those real-life challenges could give the characters even more depth.

While Kelly is already thinking about the next chapter, Duhamel looked back at the journey that brought the series this far. He admitted the cast always hoped viewers would connect with the story, but nobody expected the response to be this strong.
“I mean, you never set out to make a show that doesn’t work. You’re always trying to make something that really resonates with people. And we knew that we had a good shot at that. Because it felt right; it felt like we were doing that when we were making it.”
Kelly added that the show’s comforting tone gives audiences a welcome break from everyday life. “I think there’s really something to watching something that feels like a nice escape. It’s beautiful to watch; it’s sexy; it’s just got all the things—there’s something for everybody, I think.”
She concluded by saying, “And when it’s all complicated and noisy and scary [in real life]. I think honing in on something that doesn’t challenge you too much. But maybe just enough, and sort of feels like home, there’s clearly something to it.”
Duhamel echoed that appreciation after watching the series become a global hit. “It’s always a big relief,” Josh admitted.
Duhamel finished by thanking everyone who helped make the show a success. “And this one did, thanks to Netflix. Thanks to the whole team that we have, and thanks to the people who will watch it.”
