Madara Uchiha is one of the most powerful individuals in the world of ‘Naruto’. Madara was the most powerful Uchiha member, some fans argue that he was more powerful than Sasuke himself. He was a skilled strategist who planned out everything and was easy to adapt when things didn’t go his way.

What Is Black Zetsu?
Kuro Zetsu or black Zetsu was the spawn or a creature born of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki’s will and dreams. Zetsu considered himself to be the third son of Kaguya and claimed that he was far better than Hagoromo or Hamura as they sealed their mother. If it were to be explained in simple terms, Black Zetsu was the reason behind the feud between the Uchiha and Senju and many other things. He did all those things with the sole purpose of unleashing Infinite Tsukuyomi and freeing Kaguya.
Zetsu planted the sayings and writings that said that infinite Tsukuyomi would be the perfect world for every Shinobi in the world. Madara wished to unleash this move to make the world a perfect version of itself. However, Madara was unaware that by having access to the chakra of everyone in the world, Kaguya would be able to come back to life. Everything that Zetsu did was for this particular goal.
In the series, Zetsu became a member of the Akatsuki and worked for them. He never interfered in the working of the organization, but he controlled everything from behind the scenes. He even fooled Madara Uchiha and controlled him as well. Throughout the anime, Black Zetsu made it seem like he was loyal and reliable, but he was a master at manipulation and deceived everyone.
Why Did Madara Never Suspect Zetsu?
Zetsu first came to Madara shortly after his and Hashirama’s final fight. He claimed himself to be a spawn or the creation of Madara’s will. Madara believed him after some convincing and he never questioned him after that.
Zetsu manipulated Madara from the start and did things that made him trustworthy. From the moment he introduced himself, Zetsu manipulated him into thinking that it was only strong individuals that could manifest their wills into physical forms and manipulated Madara into thinking he was extremely strong.
In addition to that, Madara was desperate. He was desperate to find someone who would carry out his plans for him. Obito came to him quite late and there was no guarantee that he would be Madara’s perfect pawn. Madara was cautious and wanted to employ a failsafe, which he considered Zetsu to be. Due to this desperation and Zetsu’s manipulation, Madara never suspected him.
