1) Viola Davis
Viola Davis stunned everyone with her performance in ‘The Woman King‘ and people were expecting her to be nominated. So her omission from the Best Actress category shocked everyone.
2) Eddie Redmayne
Eddie Redmayne’s surprise casting as real-life serial killer Charlie Cullen in the Netflix psychological thriller ‘The Good Nurse‘ surprised and horrified everyone. However, he did not impress the Academy jury.
3) Danielle Deadwyler
Danielle Deadwyler broke out with her portrayal of the real-life character Mamie Till-Mobley in ‘Till’ and it has earned her SAG and Critics’ Choice nominations. However, she was snubbed from the Best Actress slot.
4) Taylor Swift And Selena Gomez
Taylor Swift (‘Carolina‘), Selena Gomez (‘My Mind & Me‘) as well as the song ‘Ciao Papa‘ from Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio‘ did not receive nominations in the Best Song slot. These snubs have really disappointed their fans.
5) ‘RRR’
One of the most entertaining Indian films of this year was S.S. Rajamouli’s historical epic ‘RRR‘. While its musical number ‘Naatu Naatu‘ has been nominated in the Best Song category, the film did not get the nom for Best Picture.
6) Andrea Riseborough
British actor Andrea Riseborough received praise for her performance as a person with addiction who is trying to connect with her son in ‘To Leslie‘. Several actresses like Kate Winslet and Amy Adams gave her shoutouts which paid off and she got a spot in the nominations.
7) Brian Tyree Henry
Brian Tyree Henry gave a beautiful performance alongside Jennifer Lawrence in ‘Causeway‘. However, he was ignored by both the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards. In the end, the Academy recognized his role and gave him a nomination.
8) Paul Mescal
‘Aftersun‘ quietly came in and surprised everyone with its simple yet amazing story and is named one of the best films of the year. Mescal’s performance as Calum has earned him a nomination in the Best Actor category.
9) ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’
Marvel bounced back in 2022 with ‘Wakanda Forever‘, a film that paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman while taking the story forward. However, it was snubbed from the Best Picture nomination.
10) Female Directors
The Academy has had a history of ignoring films made by female directors, though there have been exceptions. Gina Prince-Bythewood, Charlotte Wells, and Sarah Polley failed to get nominations for some of the most amazing films helmed them.
