“A Dream That I’ve Held On My Own”: Oscar Nominee Lily Gladstone Wants To Host  Saturday Night Live

We all have a list of things we want to do once we become famous, well, so does this year’s Oscar-nominated actress Lily Gladstone. The first ever native american woman to be nominated for the Academy Award has a bucket list dream, which given the height of her success, is not that unapproachable.

The 37-year-old actress has been sweeping the honors this award show season with her mind-blowing performance in ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’. The Martin Scorsese-directed movie is also nominated in the category of best picture at this year’s Oscars. The real-life events-based movie is a witty portrayal of the mysterious murders of the women of the Osage Nation for their money.

Gladstone is close to making history at this year’s Academy Awards as the first native american actress to ever get this honor. The ‘First Cow’ star recently had a chat with PEOPLE for their annual Oscar portfolio in which shared a specific dream of hers.

The actress told the magazine about her dream of hosting Saturday Night Live. Gladstone confessed, “That’s been probably a dream that I’ve held on my own.” In regards to her Academy nomination the ‘Certain Women’ star continued, “It’s like my parents — and I think it’s just what people say when you have an aspiration to act, and they want to encourage you as a kid.

“It’s like, ‘Oh, you’ll get an Oscar one day.’ So it almost just becomes a platitude, but the thing that I’ve always wanted to do if I’ve had this moment is to host SNL,” she concluded. Well given the godspeed rail of success, she’s riding, this dream of hers is not very unattainable.

As Gladstone anticipates the upcoming Academy Awards, it’s noteworthy to explore the history of Indigenous actresses at the Oscars. Reflecting on previous native nominees we have a pretty short but impactful list. Keisha Castle-Hughes, Merle Oberon, and Yalitza Aparicio are the predecessors of Lily Gladstone.

Lily Gladstone also expressed her excitement for the big night approaching soon. She concluded the interview with, “I think just being there and absorbing the magnitude of how much of an impact this film has made. I’m so excited that I get to share this.”

The 96th Academy Awards will be hosted by none other than Jimmy Kimmel. The year’s most prestigious night of film affairs is set to air live on Sunday, March 10. Lily Gladstone is nominated in the “Best Actress In A Leading Role” category for her film ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’.
