Brad Pitt sued his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie, for going behind his back and selling her shares worth $164 million of their Miraval Chateau. The 58-year-old actor has claimed this to be his ex-wife’s attempt at deliberately getting back at him and undermining his investment plans. He said she sought to inflict harm on him. Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie and her team have responded to the claims and called the narratives false.
As per Radar Online, the shares were sold off to a company called Tenute Del Mondo. Tenute del Mondo is a subsidiary of Stoli Group, a leading global ultra-premium spirits, and wine company. The company is indirectly owned by a Russian oligarch named Yuri Shefler. The court had already ruled in Pitt’s favor, however, he added one more element to this lawsuit to move the case forward against his wife.
Why is the Miraval Chateau a Big Deal for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie?
In 2008, the couple purchased a controlling interest in the French company, Miraval Chateau. It had a vineyard and a house in the South of France. The couple even got married at Miraval Chateau in 2014. When Jolie sold off her stake in the winery, Pitt claimed the sale to be invalid since they had agreed that they would not sell either of their shares without each other’s approval. Pitt is angry for being in the dark and for the violation of his contractual rights. He also claimed that his investment plans in the company are being threatened by Yuri’s hostile takeover of the winery business.
The couple was discussing negotiations on the winery, and Pitt claims that Jolie put an unreasonable demand on the table and all negotiations were thenceforth stopped and turned messy after the custody battle.
Pitt Hires Private Investigator to Track Down the Russian Oligarch
Brad Pitt has now hired a team of personal investigators to track down Yuri Shefler and his address. The paper claims that the Russian oligarch, Shefler, has ties with Vladimir Putin. The papers further inform that “having made desperate attempts to disassociate himself from the Putin regime, the Stoli brand is now a massive international liability, (referring to Vladimir Putin’s recent attack on Ukraine). Stolichnaya has been the object of boycotts throughout the world.” Moreover, since Yuri lives in the United Kingdom, the legal paperwork is also turning out to be a tedious task. Pitt has asked the court to give him some extra time for this purpose.
The lawsuit is turning messy between the two parties. A source reported to People of Jolie’s side. They said, “After the events that led to Ms. Jolie filing for divorce and her years devoted to caring for their children, Ms. Jolie and the children have not been able to return to the property, and she made the difficult decision to sell her stake in the business. After making multiple offers to her ex-husband, and knowing the business will be inherited by their children, she found a business partner with experience in the alcohol industry…. It’s unfortunate that after she properly and legally exited the business, Mr. Pitt is entangling her in multiple lawsuits.”
