Cate Blanchett had been a vegetarian for years before her husband, Andrew Upton, decided to get pigs. Even now she claims that she eats meat as little as possible. However, it would have been a shame to give up vegetarianism without a fight. Therefore, the ‘Ocean’s 8’ actor came up with a clever plan to make her children give up meat.
However, Blanchett revealed that her plan failed gloriously. Moreover, her children’s response to her plan shocked the actor. Cate shares four children with her husband- Dashiell, 22, Roman, 20, Ignatius, 16, and Edith, 9. Here’s all about Cate Blanchett’s dark plan to make her kids vegetarians.
Cate Blanchett Got Benson And Hedges To Make Her Children Vegetarians
Cate Blanchett recently appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. One of the early topics the two discussed was the animals at Blanchett’s home. Moving forward, Blanchett revealed, “I don’t eat meat much.” She wanted to try to make her children give up meat too.
Therefore, she planned, “So as an exercise in vegetarianism, I thought, if we had pigs, I would get the pigs to bond with the kids and I would ipso facto turn my kids into vegetarians…This is a terribly tragic story.”
Andrew Upton got two pigs and ironically named them Benson and Hedges after the brand of cigarettes. Blanchett continued, “My little one was a pig whisperer. He loved them…We really worked hard on the vegetarian thing.” Soon Benson and Hedges passed away and Upton made sausages out of his children’s pets. Blanchett then presented, “Kids this is Benson and Hedges.”
Blanchett’s Pro-Vegetarian Plan Had An Epic Fail
Cate related that her children were astonished by their sausages. She continued, “And the kids said, ‘The pigs from up the top?’ And I thought this is the moment they are all going to be vegetarians.” However, her plan backfired horribly when her children asked, “Do we have any ketchup?” Jimmy was in stitches. Blanchett related, “It made me so upset.”
She continued, “But I think that they were slightly less dislocated. You know when you go to the supermarket. You have no sense of what you are eating. At least they did.” Blanchett disclosed now they only have chicken who are “very healthy, very well, very happy.”
