Chris Hemsworth Has Become Choosy With Film Roles After Alzheimer’s Risk

Chris Hemsworth is one of the most popular names in Hollywood. The 39-year-old Australian actor is known for portraying superhero Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Over the years, Hemsworth has established himself as one of the world’s highest-paid actors.

Last year, Hemsworth found out he has inherited two copies of the APOE4 gene from his parents. People with this gene are more prone to getting Alzheimer’s later in their lives. This revelation had an effect on the actor and since then, he is taking fewer acting roles than before.

Chris Hemsworth is in a different zone these days and has decided to slow down, at least professionally, in order to reflect on his life and career choices. Hemsworth, who is one of the busiest actors in the industry, might soon be doing one or two films in a year or so.

According to Page Six, an insider has confirmed that the ‘Rush‘ actor has changed his perspective on the kind of roles he wants to do from now on. “He doesn’t plan to take on many roles because of [learning about his high risk for] Alzheimer’s,” the insider said.

Hemsworth has four upcoming films under his bucket. This includes an ‘Avengers‘ sequel, a Hulk Hogan biopic, ‘Extraction 2‘ and ‘Furiosa‘. While the actor has made it clear that he is not retiring, his choices seem to be heading in that direction.

Last year, while shooting for the National Geographic documentary ‘Limitless’, Hemsworth said his maternal grandfather suffers from Alzheimer’s, a disease that directly impacts our memory.

He later discovered that he had inherited some genes from his mother and father, which puts him at high risk for the disease. Talking about the test results, the ‘Thor‘ actor said: “Most of us, we like to avoid speaking about death.”

Then to all of a sudden be told some big indicators are actually pointing to this as the route which is going to happen, the reality of it sinks in. Your own mortality,” he added. Hemsworth said that he is “eight to 10 times more likely” to get the disease.
