Even Hollywood legends like Denzel Washington can’t deny the importance of a good backup plan — or a closet full of them. The two-time Oscar-winning actor may be a fan favorite for many, but he himself isn’t entirely sure what his future may hold for him. He therefore has been collecting things from his own film sets as his backups.
With decades of powerhouse performances under his belt, Washington jokingly let loose on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live‘ about all those little somethings he’s been collecting from his film sets over the years. Here’s what he has said about these things.
Denzel Washington Reveals The Souvenir He Has Retained From ‘Gladiator II’ Sets
As he now prepares for his next big film ‘Gladiator II‘, Denzel Washington is reflecting on what he took from his film sets. “I kept the sandals,” Washington said, referring to his attire in ‘Gladiator II‘. “I always keep something. steal something,” he chuckled. “It’s in the closet, it’s back there, you know, in case things don’t work out. I can sell things, I can have a little auction. You never know,” he said.
With a filmography that includes ‘Training Day‘, ‘Fences‘, and ‘The Equalizer‘, one can only imagine the treasure of souvenirs that the actor may have collected. In ‘Gladiator II‘, hitting theaters on November 22, Washington assumes the role of Macrinus, a former slave turned gladiator wrangler and power broker. Yet despite his character’s ruthless reputation, Washington insists there’s more to him than meets the eye.
“He’s not a villain, he’s a lovely fella,” Washington said of his character, adding that Macrinus doesn’t view himself as the bad guy. “You can’t play it that way,” he said.
‘Gladiator II’ Promises To Be A Blockbuster
‘Gladiator II’ is a sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 classic, and has been one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year. Loucios, played by Paul Mescal, is the grown nephew of Connie Nielsen’s Lucilla, and will return to Rome’s brutal arenas to exact revenge under Macrinus’ tutelage. He is joined in this movie by Pedro Pascal, Fred Hechinger, and Joseph Quinn.

As Washington shared more about his ‘Gladiator II‘ experience, he said, “He’s a real-life monkey. And there’s just one particular scene where I had this memorable time. I don’t know if he’s a male or female, but he was very talented, and he climbed up on my head, and I said, ‘Okay, partner.'”
As anticipation builds for ‘Gladiator II‘, fans eagerly anticipate Washington playing the complex character in the epic sequel. With a star-studded cast and Scott back at the helm, the film promises to be another visually stunning and emotionally charged addition to Washington’s illustrious career.
And if the movie breaks records, Washington’s sandals might just become a collector’s item – auction optional.
