Both Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey made their film debut with Pete Jackson’s 1994 New Zealand drama ‘Heavenly Creatures.’ the strong bond they developed while filming didn’t last for very long.
In her appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Melanie talked about it. “When I lost touch with Kate, it was more heartbreaking than some breakups that I’ve had“, she said.
She further said: “It was so painful because it wasn’t like anything happened, it’s just she became a gigantic international movie star and she didn’t have a lot of time. The 45-year-old then said that she stopped hearing from her. “People kind of drift apart, but it was so painful for me,” she said.

Lynskey Always Looked Up To Winslet
Before the two did the film together, Lynskey stated that she looked up to Kate as she “set the bar.” While auditioning for the role of Pauline Parker, Peter Jackson showed her Winslet’s audition tape and said, “This is how good you have to be.”
In the same interview, the New Zealand actress continued to praise Winslet as “a very, very confident person” who is also “very sensitive.” This is not the first time she ended up losing a friend in the industry.
