“It’s Not Flipping Brave To Go Topless”: Kate Winslet Slams People For Commenting On Her Body

Hollywood isn’t the most respectful industry for women, despite its image suggesting otherwise. Actress Kate Winslet is one of the several actresses who have addressed the “abusive” public scrutiny of their bodies. The actress has done it throughout her decades-long career in the industry.

Kate’s body has changed since her teenage years. Though she never spoke up against it earlier, she later expressed guilt over not calling out the hate comments sooner. However, she also embraced her growing body and spread the message of body positivity.

Kate Winslet, 48, recently opened up about her struggles with her body image in recent years during her podcast talk with How to Fail podcast. The ‘Titanic’ actress said, “Had I stood up for myself more, and been clear and called people out for abusive language, actually, it may have in turn given other actresses the inspiration to do the same.”

The actress shared insight into her younger days. Winslet pointed out, “I was little anyway. I remember having my measurements taken and the costume designer going ‘Cor! 26-and-a-half-inch waist! I wasn’t even aware of what was a small or a big measurement. I didn’t have a clue. But I do remember I was actually fairly petite.”

It’s not easy for an actress to perform nude scenes on screen in front of several cameras. It was no different for Kate Winslet. The actress started making active choices after ‘Titanic’, as she was learning who she was.

She went topless in her latest movie ‘Lee’ and lashed out at the viewers who called her “brave” for filming nude scenes on screen without first undergoing a Hollywood exercise regime.

She stated, “Brave is going to the front line. Brave is being a NHS nurse during Covid. It’s not flipping brave to go topless or have no makeup or no Botox…That’s just being a real person”. She further added, “I don’t want my body to break down. I don’t want to get injured. So, for me, exercise is not actually about looking a certain way. It’s about not getting injured.”
