Sean Diddy Combs is making sure to pull all the strings he can to get himself out on bail, as the rapper’s latest tactic to escape prosecution was drawing parallels between him and newly elected president Donald Trump.
Referencing President-elect Donald Trump’s federal criminal case, Sean “Diddy” Combs’ attorneys recently wrote a letter to a judge who will rule on the rapper’s bail bid request for Thanksgiving on Monday. Here’s the full story.
How Are Diddy’s Attorneys Comparing Him To Donald Trump?
Diddy’s lawyers contended in a letter to judge Arun Subramaninan on Friday that Combs’ comments on social media and other public forums are protected by the First Amendment and should be examined with the “most demanding scrutiny,” similar to what happened in Donald Trump’s case involving presidential immunity.

“The Court should apply Trump’s heightened standard when considering Mr. Combs’ speech here,” they wrote. In Trump v. United States, the Supreme Court considered whether Trump couldn’t be charged with a criminal for actions he took while in office.
According to Combs’ lawyers, the judge in Trump’s case ruled that speech limitations are only appropriate in situations when there “is a significant and imminent threat to the administration of criminal justice.”
What Crimes Were Donald Trump Convicted Of?
Donald Trump was found guilty of fabricating business records, making him the first former president in US history to be convicted of a crime.
A few weeks later, in what is arguably the most severe case he faces — for attempting to reverse the 2020 election result — the US Supreme Court declared that he had partial immunity. He faced four felony charges, including conspiracy against citizens’ rights and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
As of now, Trump is set to be sworn in as the 47th president on January 20, 2025.
