‘House of the Dragon‘ came as a surprise for a lot of viewers who thought that it will be a letdown. Instead, the HBO show met with a positive critical response and really impressive TV ratings. The show is set 200 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones‘ and focuses on House Targaryen.
The prequel show has introduced several new characters, one of them is King Viserys played by English actor Paddy Considine. He recently talked about the character and the often comparison with its parent show, ‘Game of Thrones.’ Paddy also emphasized how it avoids fan service.
Paddy Considine Talks About Comparison Of ‘House Of The Dragon’ With Its Parent Show
The first episode of ‘House of the Dragon‘ drew around 10 million viewers in the U.S. across all platforms, becoming the largest single-day viewership for a series debut for HBO.
Paddy Constantine, who plays King Viserys I Targaryen, talked about the show and its comparison with ‘Game of Thrones‘ in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“I think it can work. I don’t want it to be one of those Easter egg-y shows — “Oh there’s Boba Fett’s helmet,” and all that,” he said.
Paddy continued, “There will be little things where fans will go, “Is that what I think it is?” But it’s not a show relying on Easter eggs to get by. It’s a great narrative. It’s a family drama. There are all kinds of great stuff in it.
“It’s very much steeped in the world of ‘Game of Thrones’ and not a spinoff where they’re trying out new stuff. Hopefully, fans dig it.”

Paddy’s Reaction When He Was First Offered The Show
The English actor talked about his reaction when he first got to know about the show. “My agent said, ‘They’re making a prequel to Game of Thrones and they’re looking at you to play the king‘”, he said.
“I knew the show and [its director Miguel Sapochnik] directed one of my favorite episodes, so I was pretty excited.”
Paddy mentioned his apprehension about it. “But I was a bit cautious because sometimes I’ve been offered things in the past and it sounds exciting, and then you get the script and you just have three scenes or something.”
He continued, “I didn’t want to be in the background waving a sword. I got the first three scripts and it was a really rich, beautiful and conflicted character. A beautiful character. I’ve been waiting for a role like this, if I’m being honest.”
