Tom Cruise is a universally loved movie star. His stardom and impact on cinema is unmatched. The success of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ proved he’s still going strong, with fans still loving him after all these years. But even when you are Tom Cruise, you can’t win them all. Most people and co-stars love the ‘Mission: Impossible’ actor. But Mickey Rourke isn’t part of that fan club.
Mickey Rourke, whose career has suffered a huge blow, blasted out Tom Cruise and called him “irrelevant.” The ‘Rumblefish’ actor believes the 61-year-old actor is stringing us along with the same old performances. Rourke stunned everyone by saying that the ‘Jerry Maguire’ actor doesn’t deserve a place among the greatest actors ever.
Mickey Rourke Thinks Tom Cruise’s Stardom Is “Irrelevant”
Tom Cruise saved the theatrical business in 2022 with the success of ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’ Many have applauded his heroism, but not Mickey Rourke. The Oscar nominee isn’t too impressed with Cruise, saying he hasn’t reinvented himself as an actor. While appearing on Piers Morgan’s show, Mickey Rourke didn’t hold back his criticism of the ‘Magnolia’ actor and called his stardom “irrelevant.”
Mickey Rourke told the notorious British journalist, “That doesn’t mean shit to me. [Tom Cruise has] been doing the same part for 35 effing years. I got no respect for that. I don’t care about money or power. I care about…when I watch Al Pacino or Christopher Walken working, or De Niro’s early work and Richard Harris and Ray Winstone, that’s the kind of actor I want to be like. A lot of guys that tried to stretch as actors.”

Tom Cruise’s Remarks About Military Offended Mark Wahlberg
In 2013, Cruise compared filming on location as brutal as fighting a war in Afghanistan. During the red carpet for the premiere of ‘Lone Survivor,’ Mark Wahlberg took severe issue with comparison. The actor who played a Navy SEAL in the film took umbrage with such a flippant remark.
Mark Wahlberg said, “For actors to sit there and talk about ‘Oh I went to SEAL training’ and I slept on the — I don’t give a f* what you did. You don’t do what these guys did. For somebody to sit there and say my job was as difficult as somebody in the military’s. How f*ing dare you. While you sit in a makeup chair for two hours.”
Turns out, it was all a misunderstanding. Tom Cruise’s team said the actor was joking about the military comparisons. Mark Wahlberg, on the other hand, didn’t realize the remark was made by Cruise. According to US Weekly, Wahlberg maintained all was good between the two. However, his respect for the military is greater than his respect for actors.
