Dominic West is used to playing ‘normal’ roles of guys in suits on screen. His notable roles include his portrayal in ‘The Wire’ as a police detective, for which he received a lot of appreciation. Moreover, the actor also portrayed the role of King Charles III in ‘The Crown’.
From a police detective to a royal, the range of West’s characters seems very interesting. Well, his wife also thinks the same, however, she has a solid opinion on what suits him. West’s wife Catherine FitzGerald, who has noble ancestry, thinks that her husband is not made for posh roles.

Dominic West’s Wife Has A Strong Opinion Of Him Playing Upper-Class Roles
Dominic West completed his education at a prestigious school favored by the British Royal Family, but his wife doubts his kingship role. Dominic revealed that Catherine Fitzgerald thinks he “Isn’t very good” at playing elite characters.
The actor was talking to the Times, and there he said that his wife, who belongs to the upper-class society thinks he is not made for the role he portrayed in ‘The Crown‘. He said, “My wife, who is genuinely upper class, always tells me, ‘You’re much better in the working-class parts, you’re not very good as upper class, you’re not convincing at all.” Being the good husband that he is, Dominic agrees with his wife’s statements and added, “And I agree with her.”
He did plenty of blue-collar, black-suit roles and seeing him play King Charles III was something different than his usual roles. Dominic West is proud of his roles and the way he grew as an actor these few past years. The actor added, “I’m McNulty, and I’m Jean Valjean and I’m Iago, I think those are my best roles. Some people look good in stiff collars but I don’t think I’m one of them.” He continued, “I understand upper-class attitudes and ways, and I like those characters, but as an outsider.”

Dominic West’s Role In ‘The Crown’
Even though Dominic West played the role of King Charles III nicely, ‘The Crown’ attracted criticism over authenticity. While talking to BBC’s Today, West said that he did notice that the show wasn’t doing well and he used to worry about that same fact every day. “I don’t want to make their lives any more difficult than they already are, so I suppose it does concern you,” West said.
He was then asked about the reactions from The Royal Family to which he said, “All reactions worry me. I read all the reviews and spent two days in bed. So yes, I’m a sensitive soul, I worry about what people think.”
The show received a lot of mixed reviews but West did get some appreciation for his performance in the show and was also nominated for the Golden Globes. ‘The Crown‘ is available on Netflix.
