Tesla CEO Elon Musk seems to have taken offense at a scene from Netflix’s doomsday thriller ‘Leave the World Behind‘ — but not for the right reasons. The billionaire took to X to respond to a movie scene where Julia Roberts’ character dodges hacked Teslas on a highway.
Responding to Netflix’s social media post of the Tesla attack scene, Musk said that Tesla cars are good enough to work on solar energy. “Teslas can charge from solar panels even if the world goes fully Mad Max and there is no more gasoline!” he wrote in the caption of the retweet.
Elon Musk Misses The Point Of ‘Leave The World Behind’
‘Leave The World Behind‘, with a tinge of dystopian tone, is about technology and its potential dark consequences. The scene that Musk reacted to shows the dangers self-driving cars and hacking can pose for humankind.

If anything, the movie only emphasized how good Tesla cars are at doing what they intend to do — take control away from humans. But Elon Musk, infamous for his intolerance to criticism, seems to have misinterpreted the movie’s message here.
And social media users did not spare him from his oblivion. Many were quick to react to Musk’s ignorance, questioning if he had even watched the movie.

What Is The Plot Of ‘Leave The World Behind’?
‘Leave The World Behind‘, casting Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke in the lead roles, revolves around the story of a couple that finds themselves in the middle of a global cyberattack while on vacation. Another couple joins the leads to stay in the same house. The two families navigate through the uncertainties of the attack together.
Directed by Sam Esmail, the movie is an adaptation of the book of the same name, written by Rumaan Alam in 2020. In an interview with Variety, Alam said that leaving certain aspects unexplained was a deliberate choice.
“That was such a fundamental part of the writing process for me, is that I also don’t know,” Alam said. He asserted that the storyline is designed in a way that it intentionally avoids giving concrete answers or laying down certainties about the apocalypse-like situation in the movie.
‘Leave the World Behind‘Â is available for streaming on Netflix.
